Nobody answers the phone, its exclusively a message taking phone number. Even better is the fact that nobody calls you back. Completely useless.

The Nassau County Bar Association has a lawyer referral service. I doubt very much that they will be referring to any of the attorneys' track record.

To the extent there is an issue related to custody and not to finances, you can seek the assistance of an 18b (?) Panel counsel. Call the bar association.

Is it ethical for a lawyer to charge client for multiple attempts to serve summons culminating is filing with the state due to an error in spelling of defendant’s name?
