I attempted to drop in to book a wedding and see the place but the doorman was so nasty and rude I was turned off and left. I called John Rose who's apparently the general manager/owner to tell him that the man at the front door was inappropriate and severely rude and I was met with an even more rude man. He began to yell at me within 2 minutes over the phone, would not let me speak. He then screamed into the phone that I called to argue with him. No, actually that was the very last thing that I would have wanted or anticipated. He then continued screaming and shouted that I called to be offended! Again, his analysis was completely wrong. I expected to be treated with great respect and be listened to about my extremely valid complaint because I'd been verbally abused by their young doorman for no reason. He then said, "You're annoying me" followed by, "I never want to speak to you again!" The entire duration of call was John Rose screaming at me. The only thing I did get a chance to say was that I wanted to make a complaint about the guy at the front door. The last thing I expected was to speak to a more unhinged person who turned out to be the general manager! Can you imagine being mistreated and then speaking to an owner/manager and being more mistreated for absolutely no reason? I simply told John Rose that I thought he was mentally ill and hung up the phone. I knew what I was dealing with and I wanted to save myself any additional time, effort and annoyance. I try to leave reviews when people are egregiously horrible. John Rose fits that bill. It's terrible that people give them business. We should give our money to good people who make our lives better, not worse. People who have no boundaries, who are verbally abusive and overly aggressive, which both men at this location were, should not be rewarded with business. They should be civilized and speak to people with a modicum of respect. I know we're living in a time where mental health is an issue. If any company was nominated for being most mentally defective and in urgent need of psychiatric care, it is Gustavino's. An on-site psychiatrist should be immediately dispatched to Gustavino's! I can see why the doorman spoke to me without any fear of losing his job. It's because of the misogynistic culture at Gustavino's. Some businesses are sadly run by unhealthy people. The company absorbs the personality of those at the helm. I would urge you to keep away from this bizarre company with the angriest employees and owner I've ever encountered in New York City and the world for that matter. There is something very wrong and extremely troubling at this enterprise. I can only imagine how the female employees are treated if this is how despicable they are toward women. This whole interaction has been shocking and chilling at the same time, knowingpeople like this walk among us, deal with the public on a daily basis taking their money and hosting their events, and behind the curtain act like sociopaths. New York City certainly is home to very hostile and misanthropic creatures.
