Great little place! Room was small. Staff was very helpful. Breakfast was good but a bit limited. Would have been better if there was a curtain covering the transom. It let in a lot of light during the night.

This place is an odd mix of good and bad. The receptionist was nothing short of rude when we went in and asked about staying the night and asked to see a room. But then she was quite pleasant and helpful later. The room is small, but pleasant ... although the blinds did not work well, so bathroom activities had to be done in the dark or in full view from the street. The breakfast was interesting, in that several of the foods were made locally, but the fruit salad was "off" (i.e., a bit rotten). The patio out back was very nice, and we made great use of it for an evening of drinking beer and relaxing. Anyhow, this place is fascinating, beautiful, and historical, and just could use some fixing up of the details.

What a great find in western Kansas! My wife and I travel to western Kansas once or twice a month to see relatives and friends back home. We're always on the lookout for off-the-beaten-path historic hotels or B&Bs to stay at. I found the Midland while looking for a midpoint place to stay not far from Hays and decided to take a chance and stay an evening just to check it out. We were pleasantly surprised by how modern the rooms were, while still maintaining the historic charm of a late 1800s railroad hotel. The bathrooms were also very functional, with modern amenities, and extremely clean. Wifi was functional for light business needs. Staff were friendly and very helpful! The only slight downside would be the continental breakfast the next morning. The fare was pretty skimpy, even by continental standards, but the coffee was spectacularly good (which is all I really care about!!) If you're in the area and looking for something quaint and different, give the Midland a try - you'll love it!

Hidden gem! Fabulous restored hotel and amazing food, drinks and hospitality! Free homemade fresh breakfast was a huge bonus featuring local sausage and pastries. Cute affiliated boutique across the railroad tracks. Barn is a fully functional event space for concerts and good BBQ. Sample Room Tavern has a wide menu selection and everything we had was very good! Comfortable stay in the hotel which has a lot of history!

We do have an elevator that goes to all floors. Additionally you can park in the back and not have any steps. Room 102 is our ADA room.
Yes, pets seem to be allowed on the first floor. No pet fees- we brought two dogs. You will sign something that they can charge you, if pets make a mess.
There is a jacuzzi sweet that is their honeymoon suite! It's a beautiful hotel!
