Why can nobody answer the phone ever!? I’ve been calling every single week at various times - if everyone should be vaccinated by now, why it isn’t open until now?

Questions & Answers

Are the hepatitis a vaccine, typhoid fever vaccine and malaria prophylaxis vaccine required to travel to Rio de Janeiro?

Whitney Burt | Mar 10, 2022
Embassy of Brazil in Washington, D.C. | Mar 10, 2022

Hello, other than COVID-19 vaccine, no other vaccine is required by the Brazilian government to enter Brazil.

I am traveling to Brazil Rio de Janeiro, from the USA I am finding conflicting information on the yellow fever vaccine requirements. Is it required? I don’t want to not be allowed in the country because of a missed vaccine.

Whitney Burt | Mar 10, 2022
Embassy of Brazil in Washington, D.C. | Mar 10, 2022

Hello, the Brazilian government does not require proof of yellow fever vaccination to enter the country. It is recommended if you plan to spend extended time in heavily forested areas. Some countries require their nationals to show proof of yellow fever vaccination to allow them back in - the US does not. If you plan on visiting other countries after visiting Brazil and before returning to the US it might be necessary to show proof of vaccination to enter them.

My friend has her green card, is in Brazil, and needs to come to US. Can she even fly into the US right now? Second, does she need to be vaccinated, or does she just need to prove she's had a test w/in three days of flying & proof she's negative?

Ann Dorgan | Oct 6, 2021
Embassy of Brazil in Washington, D.C. | Oct 6, 2021

Dear Ann, your questions pertain to US immigration procedures, on which the Brazilian government cannot officially comment. You should take a look at the US Embassy's website, which has the latest information and guidance on entry into the US from Brazil: https://br.usembassy.gov/visas/

Hello, the Embassy does not have a consular section. The Consulate-General is a separate, independent mission. According to their website, due to Covid, passport requests are being done exclusively by post: http://cgwashington.itamaraty.gov.br/pt-br/passaporte.xml

The result of the Covid test done within 72 hours before traveling to Brazil can be printed by email, or has to be sent directly from the laboratory

adriana silvestre | Oct 6, 2021
Embassy of Brazil in Washington, D.C. | Oct 6, 2021

Dear Adriana, please contact the airline you intend to travel with to obtain this information, as they are responsible for verifying the test prior to boarding.

My kids were born in the US and have valid US passport but also have an expired Brazilian passport. Do they need to renew their Brazilian passport or is the US passport with a Visa good enough?

frank joaquin | Oct 7, 2019
Embassy of Brazil in Washington, D.C. | Oct 7, 2019

Dear Frank, Brazilian consulates do not issue a visa in a foreign passport of Brazilian citizens with dual nationality. Your children will be able to travel to Brazil with the US passport, without visa requirements, as of June 17, 2019. If you need to go before, it will be necessary to renew the Brazilian passport.
