Beautiful grounds, lots of history here. Well worth the visit. Allow for plenty of time to enjoy in its entirety. You want want to miss anything. A great place to plan a picnic lunch during your visit.

Beautiful, tranquil grounds excellent for a self-guided tour or family picnic. Don't miss the great views of the river!

Free to the public! A quick tour of the first floor and grounds. Lots of opportunities to read up on the history of this home and the significance it played in the civil war.

Love this elevated location, it overlooks the Rappahannock River and provides great views of Fredericksburg in the distance. Take a trail to John Pratt Park or now that Chatham Bridge has reopened, take the trail from Chatham Manor into the Old Town Historic area Fredericksburg, after crossing the bridge.

Can you get a NPS stamp here?

I believe that being part of the NPS, there is a stamp available by the greeting station but I don't recall specifically seeing the stamp during our past visit. Looking for a more regular visitor or greeter to respond.

If you wanted to have a photoshoot on the grounds would you need to call ahead ?

Kasey G. | Oct 7, 2019
Victoria Little | Oct 7, 2019

If you are hiring someone to take your photo, then you can't use the grounds, however if you are taking the photos yourself or have a family member or friend taking them then no. I had this same issue and called and the ranger told me that basically if you are paying someone or being paid then it is considered for a commercial use. The National parks do not allow photography that is not being taken for personal use.

Are pets allowed on the grounds? Clarification: Not asking about the interior of the Manor, just the outside property.

Yes, but they must remain on leash and you must clean up after you pet

I thought this would be free, but someone wrote in there feedback ( it was a bit pricey ) so what's the cost?

If I remember, the grounds and buildings are free. There is a very small charge for videos they show.
