I NEVER want to go to NFRMC. Was put in a room by my self, with curtains for door, ring for nurse or anyone really, no response, had been there since last night, ask for water never recieved any, had husband bring me a bottle, even had to ask for food. no lunch, dinner but finanly got a hamburger about 2 days old, so hard couldn't eat it, again husband went for food, when doctor came it ask him to discharge me would look for another physician somewhere else other than Gainsville, Fl.

After my experience yesterday, I would give the hospital 0 stars if possible but because there were a couple of caring nurses and doctors I will give them 2 stars. My last experience was awful awful awful. I couldn’t believe the treatment I received. Now I feel like there’s no good hospital in Gainesville that I can go to.

Unsatisfactory experience - particularly regarding hospitalist, Dr. Yvette Bazikian, who refused a request to consult with the patient’s family regarding her treatment plan. The patient was my 83 year old mother with mild dementia and bipolar disorder, who though very agreeable and cooperative, is not capable of providing an accurate health history and relies on her family, especially a daughter, who is a healthcare provider, to advocate for her. She was admitted for a urinary tract infection requiring 2 doses of IV antibiotics once every 24 hours. Otherwise, she was stable and required no other care. She was admitted to a room with an elderly woman with dementia, who was agitated and disoriented and literally screamed and cried out incessantly all night and throughout the next day. Staff refused requests to move my mother to another room (I can’t believe there wasn’t another option in that entire hospital). The nurses were clearly fed up with trying to manage the roommate and ignored her calls except when she tried to climb out of bed, when they came in and reprimanded her. I overheard them say the doctor refused to give the roommate anything for sleep because she wasn’t hurting herself or anyone else. NOT TRUE! That doctor failed to recognize the harm that going without sleep can cause my mother. For a patient with bipolar disorder, a night without sleep can destabilize that illness and certainly two nights of disturbed sleep is an unacceptable risk. I realize internists are not psychiatrists, but if she was ignorant of the psychiatric risks, where was plain old empathy? What about “caring” for the patient or listening to the family? It seems Dr. Bazikian, who refused our request for discharge after administration of the last dose of antibiotic without explanation and ignored our requests for an opportunity to consult with her is deficient in these basic clinical skills. My elderly mother was very polite but quite distressed and wanted to leave. In the end, after seeking advocacy from nursing leadership without success, we opted to take her home under the care of her daughter, against medical advise, because we knew it was in her best interest. With an elderly mother who has health problems, we will no doubt use the ER again, but will refuse any admissions, other than for surgical interventions or intensive care. Everything else will be managed at home in a safer more patient-centered manner with the support of her primary care provider, family, and employing home healthcare services as necessary. And about those semi private rooms - they still exist greed supersedes privacy and comfort! And there is no way to deliver care in that setting and comply with HIPAA regulations!

Staff is great. Parking is horrible. Parking ramp always full. Valet is $5. They have no parking and charge you to park. They have to fix the parking. $5 a day is terrible. $35 a week. Who knows how much I'll end up paying.
