UPDATE 08/30/22 The owner and a new crew based out of Charlotte came out today and finished up all the remaining work in a half-day. They were polite and addressed all my remaining concerns. So far I am pleased with the product itself (the windows and siding) and have no doubt that is much more efficient that the previous original wood windows. To prospective buyers I would suggest that you request crews use drop cloths of some kind during the removal and install. Though there were many crews and attempts to remove all trash, nails and aluminum clippings, I continue to find pieces here or there. I would also suggest that some type of deadline be added to the contract to ensure that work is completed in a timely manner. To the company I would suggest that the communication with customers desperately needs to be improved. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 08/01/22 WARNING! At this time I would not recommend Universal Windows Direct / Cardinal Home Improvements to a friend or family member. It has been 8 months since work was first started to replace both the windows and siding on my home and the project is still incomplete. I was told at the start that the total job would take 10 days. This started in December 2021. I have lost total faith in this Universal Windows Direct / Cardinal Home Improvements and their owner as I continue to receive little to no communication about when the project will be complete. I continue to have to put in all the communication effort. I have had multiple crews sent out performing poor quality, unfinished work. Nearly every window is incomplete in some fashion with only partial wraps / incomplete / poor caulking. I now worry that the unfinished work is further damaging my home as it allows rain to enter the old window framing without being able to exit. Crews also tore a roof shingle which is allowing water to get behind the gutter and likely damaging my roof. There is poor crew oversight from Universal Windows/Cardinal Homes. I have had to keep my own running list of what work still needs to be performed on the house which I have sent to them multiple times. Several of the items could have been fixed at any time. Additionally, they don’t ensure that the crew is performing quality work with the right material. Different crews used different caulking type/color which doesn’t match the windows. Crews left dozens of nails, sharp aluminum clippings, as well as broken glass around the house that I have had to pick up on my own. I worry that my children won’t be able to run barefoot in my own yard. The last communication I received is that windows screens and additional coil (aluminum window wrapping) still haven’t arrived. They knew about the needed coil 8 months ago. The screens I told them about back in March. They say it’s supply chain shortages but other companies continue to perform work and get material. I continue to be given many broken promises. I will continue to update this review as I have more information.

While the estimate process and install itself were fine, the complete lack of communication after i submitted the deposit made me wonder if i had gotten scammed. I submitted the signed contract and payment in June. My money is accepted then, nothing. No text, email or phone call detail the timeline, if windows were ordered, or even confirmation of receipt. The beginning of August i call asking as much, i get a voice mail back asking to call back and schedule. 2 weeks and 3 phone calls with no return call i had to text the sales guy. He says they can install in 3 days. perfect! He will let me know what time. I hear nothing. The night before i reach out again, they can't do it the next day as planned but the following morning. Less than ideal, but OK. They were scheduled to arrive at 10. No one shows, I don't hear anything until 10:40 that the install team were running late. The install team appears to have done a good job which is the only saving grace. I would not recommend this company for the complete lack of communication. No one answers the phone there and they rarely return phone calls.

This was a very pleasant experience. We had all the windows in the house upgraded from the 1920's to new double pane double hung for less than we budgeted. They were a dream to work with and the entire process was the easiest we have ever had with contractors. The energy savings is just now appearing on our budget sheet, and the money saved will be banked so we can travel to Europe next year to see the kids in their new house in Rotterdam. Thank you Josh and the guys over at Universal Windows Direct We Love Our Windows

The best way to tell if your new windows are energy efficient is checking for an Energy Star certification. This shows that the windows have up-to-date technology in terms of energy savings, including argon gas, krypton gas, low-e glazing, and dual or triple pane glass.
Upgrading your home with energy efficient windows can certainly help lower utility bills. However, it’s difficult to give an exact dollar amount. The amount of your savings depends on many variables, such as the age and performance of your old windows. If you upgrade from single pane windows to triple pane windows, you’ll find the largest amount of savings.
Double hung windows are generally the most popular option. These windows blend seamlessly with many home styles as well as décor and personal taste. Adding grids to double hung windows can make them appear more classic, and leaving them out can provide a more modern look and feel.
Universal Windows Direct offers plenty of window style options to suit nearly any architecture. The style of your new windows will largely be determined by the architecture of your home, as well as your personal taste. The knowledgeable consultants at Universal Windows Direct can help you determine the most suitable window for your home.
Universal Windows Direct has a crew of experienced, certified installers that install windows 365 days per year. Our installation team knows exactly how to install our windows to create an airtight seal to maximize energy efficiency. Attempting installation on your own can downgrade the performance of the window and potentially void your warranty.
One of the first signs to look for is energy loss. If your utility bills are consistently becoming more expensive despite the weather and regular maintenance of your HVAC system, your windows likely need to be replaced. Furthermore, drafts may signal that it’s time for replacement. If you notice a chill in the air during the winter months or air generally making its way between the frames, new window replacement is recommended. You’ll also need to consider the age of the window and the condition of the frames.
Yes, it is.
Sure, all windows can sweat. However, it’s not the window that causes this. Surface temperature and humidity levels can and will cause condensation. The more the glass is insulated, the better. For example, our SuperSpacer technology allows for flexibility within the window. This flexibility traps the gases between the panes for a more insulated product.
Yes. Our windows don’t let the warm air out. Thus, the outside pane will stay colder. It will dissipate when the weather changes. It’s entirely normal and there is nothing wrong with your window. If anything, it shows how well your window is working to keep the good in and the bad out.
Our superior triple pane windows are the best in the business. Triple pane windows will typically have U-factors that are about 20-30% better than a similar double pane window. That’s a pretty substantial improvement. They will also have better SHGC ratings as they tend to have two surfaces coated with a low-e coating. These coatings will leave you with a lower visible transmission rating, meaning it will typically be darker in a home with triple pane windows.
Sure, wood and vinyl windows may perform similarly when it comes to energy efficiency, but when you consider ease of installation, wood’s high maintenance requirements and the availability of rich, textured, realistic woodgrain laminates for vinyl windows, vinyl becomes the outstanding choice for several reasons. Vinyl windows are low maintenance, provide excellent insulating value, beauty, and appearance of wood without the hassle of maintaining it. Furthermore, vinyl offers strength and durability, high-level resistance to rotting, corrosion, salt air, termites and air pollutants.
Our windows are incredibly easy to clean. Not only do the panes tilt in for convenient access, but our vinyl window frames can be cleaned with soap and water.
No one can beat us in terms of warranty, durability, and longevity. We are the best value for price and quality.
The windows we offer are reasonably priced and market competitive. Our windows are of the highest quality and a great investment. Along with our lifetime warranty, there’s no comparison.
