I have been working with Dr. Gage for about 8 months. I reached out to Red River initially because of my hypothyroid condition that I did not want to be put on prescription medication for. At first, I was a bit hesitant because of the cost of the program, but I soon learned after researching other functional medicine docs that paying a designated amount for all treatment I needed was better than being charged hundreds of dollars per visit with another doctor. Especially since you never know how long you will need treatment for or how many appointments you will need. When I began receiving treatment, I was struggling with extreme fatigue and insomnia among other things. In our first appointment Dr. Gage asked me how many “good days” I have every month. My answer at the time was one. One good day a month. Here we are 8 months later, and I would say that number is easily 25 good days a month. I physically and mentally feel better, but my blood work has also improved drastically, which is further proof that I really am healing. If you are looking for a quick fix, this is not for you. It is a marathon, not a sprint and each phase of treatment is very intentional and takes time. All that I’ve learned about my body, inflammation, food sensitivities etc…. have given me the power to choose my health moving forward. I have had some moments of reverting back to old habits and have paid the price with feeling terrible again at times- but because of what Dr. Gage has taught me I know how to bounce back and get back on track. I really feel that the time and money spent during the greater part of this year to get healthy is the best investment I will ever make.

I felt so hopeful during my consultation with the doctor; he echoed many of my concerns and reassured me that he would find the root cause of my health concerns. I decided to proceed to the next step, which involved getting my blood drawn and a follow up appointment to discuss his interpretation of the results. He assured me that my insurance would cover the blood work he needed to get started, so I took my blood work request down to St Luke’s, had my blood drawn, and scheduled a follow-up appointment with the doctor a couple of weeks later. When I returned for a follow-up visit, I found it odd that the receptionist had me pay the $200 fee before the doctor saw me, but shrugged it off. I then sat down with him for my consultation, and I appreciated that he handed me a copy of my blood work and went over all of it with me, which took about half an hour. While I don’t disagree entirely with his recommendations for improving my health, I thought his set, 18 visit “program” (for lack of a better word) seemed excessive and unorthodox. The $4,500 non-flexible price tag, which I would have to pay before we continued with the program, made me very uneasy, as did the estimated $600 additional payments for supplements. I ultimately decided to seek care elsewhere. Today, I received the statement from my health insurance to let me know that I will likely owe more than $300 for “experimental” blood work, which I was told my insurance would cover. I understand this isn’t the final bill and that it may change before I receive the bill, but I was still shocked and angry. If I had known that just consulting with the doctor to hear his interpretation of my blood work would cost me more than $550, and that I would leave his office without a clear idea of a roadmap for how to fix my health issues, I never would have called his office in the first place.

I thought at my first appointment I had finally found the answer I needed to help get the treatment I needed. I only found out a month later, after hardly any communication if any at all from the provider's office, as well as no other orders for labs that were promised that this was not the route to go. All my hopes we're definitely dashed.

I called and left a message to get information. It's been over a month and no return call! I got on the website and asked for information..... no response. Very disappointed.

Could someone just explain the contradictory info? The reviews are extreamly positive but under the business name it says "Deprecation Announced" that is Not a good word. It is a scary and univiting description. Is this a typo?

Ang Bowden | Oct 5, 2020

Hi Bekah. The only thing I know is that Red River Heath and Wellness has helped me have a life again. I know nothing about "Depreciation Announced". I know $4,000 sounds scary but my treatment cost was $6,000 plus restorative natural products that were not inexpensive. To me it was worth the cost to feel so much better.
