UPDATE 2019: FARM IS PERMANENTLY CLOSED. OWNER PASSED AWAY AND KIDS ARE CLEARCUTTING ALL TREES AND MAY BE SELLING PROPERTY. TOTALLY BUMMED AFTER A GREAT YEAR LAST YEAR. HISTORY: This is the first year that hicks is open to the public for u-cut. Their previous history has been commercial where they cut the trees and sell them in Southern California. The owner is aging and his great friends are helping him do it local. This being our first time at this location as well we found it to be a very easy experience. HOURS: 10 am to Dark PRICE: The tree prices were $6 a foot and we ended up getting a 7-foot Nordmann and a 4 foot Douglas Fir for $62. I have no complaints about that price. For 2 dollars extra per tree you can have it wrapped. See video. They also have flocked trees and colored trees. See pics. VARIETIES: Douglas, Nordmann, Noble, Grand and Canaan (similar to a Fraser Fir). They have trees from 2 feet to 12 feet or more depending on variety. They can also spray your tree with fire retardant or flock it for you. EXPERIENCE: One issue we have had in the past is that you either get a farms with lots of things going on and high prices for everything or you get one where you take a gamble on trying to find any tree that is decent because they are not well cared for. The trees at other farms like Hunters and it Schilters are significantly more expensive but you are paying for the atmosphere. THIS IS A TREE FARM. There are no playgrounds here and no activities (although the kids had fun playing hide and seek and another family set up a photo shoot for their family). No wreaths and none of the other frills that you might find at a tree farm for families (my 5 year old did get a coloring book). However? for us we just wanted a tree at a reasonable price and a good experience where our kids could pick a tree, harvest it and take it home. That is what we got and it was great. EXPECTATIONS: Bring a saw and bring some straps to tie it down to your vehicle if carrying it on top. The farm is out in the country SE of Tumwater about 20 min from Lacey and Olympia. You drive up a gravel road and park. We brought a saw so I don't know if they have any to loan. They said if we found a tree we liked they would come on a four wheeler and get it. We cut ours and for sure, they came and got it. We paid the extra two dollars and had it baled. They loaded it onto the car for us. Apparently we were supposed to being our own straps and didn't so they found some twine and tied it down for us. When I said I could do it they insisted they would do it for me. These folks were super nice. SUMMARY: A great basic, no frills, real tree farm. If you want a tree at a fair price then come here with great service then stop here. I would come here again. Try them out, buy a tree and help them get started in the u-cut business.

My mom and I were just here and found the perfect Christmas tree. After traipsing back to the far corner with chainsaw in toe. We thought oh my goodness that's a long ways. But once we got to the noble section we found a tree we liked. We marked it but kept looking, for something a little bigger. As we were walking we said ohhh ahhh look at that one and that one. That's when I asked mom, well, how many trees can we get?? 😂😂 it's such a pleasure to see someone take such pride and care of their tree farm. Thanks again for our perfect tree. See ya next year!!

The staff were friendly and helpful and the tree selection was pretty good (variety of types and sizes). They had some pre-cut or u-cut available. The cost was also really reasonable. We found a beautiful tree we cut ourselves and only paid $5 a foot for it.

Great trees for a great price. Everyone that helped was amazing. We will be going back next year.

They have all of those options and can do it custom if you like as well as fire retardant.
We went there and didn't see anything open. We called the business several times and no one ever called back.
Carl passed away on June 10 last year. He is missed very much.
