My mother-in-law called the Boise office of SSA to change her direct deposit, and got an absolutely rude man after her wait of almost an hour. SSA people interact with older folks all the time and you would think if one calls they could at least be civil. The guy should take a time out and possibly not come back unless his attitude changes. He didn't give his name for good reason, because I would have called back and talked to his supervisor.

I assume you are talking about phone extensions? None, anybody can help you. If you have a case manager, they might give you there extension number. Other than that you wont get one and can speak to anyone.

I think the way that you do it, is first you fill out a direct deposit form that you get from Social Security with your new account information. Then I believe he would have to speak to a representative in person, request that the bank account that you were getting your benefits in to be removed, and the new account be put in its place.

If you got divorced, or are getting divorced make sure its in final order of divorce decree then take order to SSA and they will let you change it.

If they decided you need one, you can't. You can change your payee to someone in your family like spouse or parent, beware, this can cause domestic issues.
