I was able to see Jupiter and Saturn. Two shooting stars, the big dipper was the biggest I've ever seen it. The Milky Way was gorgeous. Definitely will be back

Good facility. Very good instructors and volunteers. Worth visiting for all ages, to know about the universe, stars and planets

This place is wonderful, I have had the pleasure of going here since I was 10 and every year they improve! My favorite part is the fact that the volunteers truly love space and do their best to educate everyone that comes. AND it's free!

Love this place. Jupiter and three moons were clearly visible. Saturn with rings looked so close. Great star tour.

Questions & Answers

Hello, I wanted to ask: where can I go with my telescope, in Sacramento or near Sacramento

Usually I drive to a Blue Canyon Airport. But it should be around 1:30.

Is it possible to come there with your telescope when the observatory is not working? And then in the description I saw that unauthorized telescopes are prohibited?

You are not permitted to bring your own telescope there, even when the observatory is closed.

Can I go there at night while the observatory (ie the building) is closed? I just want to find a dark sky to take some astrophotography and also spend some time up there.

Yep, you can! I just went yesterday. There's a parking lot and a path lit with lights

Does one need reservations to view universe during evening hours?

No reservations required, but call beforehand. The have to have enough volunteers to help out.

I'd like to volenteer for my eighth grade requirement., I'm 14 and I'm very interested in space but do not know a whole lot about it. Is there anything I can do? And do I have to sign up there?

What will be visible on 6/2/18?

Jupiter, maybe some small clusters or nebulae through the 2 big telescopes they have, and a good star tour. Make sure to install Googke Sky App to make out and see the constellations in the sky, it's a very helpful app for amatures. Telescopes and star tours only avaliable if the staff is there.

Can I get a job here? Part time? Volunteer? I am 13

You can volunteer! The docents (guides) are very friendly and knowledgeable.
