Had a dinner reservation here for about 15 people. Even though the restaurant was not even that busy at the time, we were forced to choose a prix fixe "family style dining option" ahead of time. The restaurant would not let us make the reservation otherwise. A few days before the dinner, a couple in our group realized their flight would not arrive in time. I called and tried to change the number of people on the reservation, as I understood we would be charged a fixed price per head. The restaurant would not let us change the number. Finally, our group is at the restaurant, and we are eating the food that comes before us. And we realize we are being served crispy potatoes... NOT the mashed potatoes that we had clearly ordered in an email to the Operations Director! After this realization, we asked a server what happened to the mashed potatoes? She explained that due to covid-related issues, there was not enough staff present earlier in the day to prepare mashed potatoes. We are totally sympathetic to the servers, kitchen staff, etc. who have been working under especially difficult conditions for the past few years. Several members of our group have backgrounds in the restaurant industry. What was unconceivable to us was the fact that Open Range was apparently so strict about their "policies" and refused to budge when we asked for any slight deviation, yet when it came down to an item on the menu that the restaurant FORCED us to pick in advance, and for which they FORCED us to pay extra because they refused to change the head count... They decided it wasn't even worth NOTIFYING me of a change in the menu. THAT is when we knew this restaurant does not actually care about customers, as long as they are getting their money. Going through the headache of dealing with planning this dinner with Open Range, only to be so thoroughly disappointed by the outcome was the worst part of our trip. There are plenty of restaurants in Bozeman serving similar fare; please take your hard-earned dollars to an establishment who actually deserves them!

It’s the dog wall for me. Got me straight in the feels with that one. I love it. Open Range has classic steakhouse dishes done right. The French onion soup is a great starter, and the wedge salad is perfection. My favorite cut is the ribeye, served up with crispy potatoes.

Came for an anniversary while on vacation. Prepared to pay the price of the steaks and expected high quality. Bison tenderloin ordered medium rare, came out rare. When asked to fix they placed back on and seared the side that had been cut. Steak remained rare. Did not eat more than 3 bites of the steak. Husband ordered 16oz ribeye and on first bite had bone shards lodged into his teeth. The steaks were not well seasoned at all and the steak knives for a “steakhouse” were the worst quality. Highly disappointed in coming to this restaurant and eating this food. Even more disappointed that we didn’t leave after trying their “skillet cornbread”. Also, who places their butcher case and kitchen in open view to the exit of the bathroom all the way in the back of the restaurant? That should have been the biggest red flag for anyone.

We hosted a dinner there for our national conference and it was perfect. Service staff were great. The menu was really well-executed including the best key-lime pie I've ever had. The bar provided excellent service and Montana-themed drinks that were crowd-pleasers. We have association members who have been going to events like this for 35 years claiming it to be the best conference dinner they've had. Excellent work all around. I would absolutely host an event with Open Range again.

You can call the restaurant Monday - Saturday after 2pm and we will be happy to set you up with a gift card!
Not currently but it will be back in mid September on the weekends. Be sure and call to be sure its on that nights menu.
We stay at 50 percent capacity and keep tables apart. We require masks.
We had to. I think it depends on the time and day. Later on weekends require it, but not necessarily during the week or an unpopular time.
I'm not 100% but I believe it is. Its worth a phone call to ask!!!
I believe they could but I'd call them to check.
