Maverick's is without a doubt the best comic shop in Cincinnati and most of that comes down to Leo, who has worked there for ages. He is incredibly kind, helpful, and knowledgeable. He will drop what he's doing to go hunting for some obscure issue you're looking for. He will remember a comic you mentioned wanting in passing six months before and proudly hold it out to you next time you walk in the door. Chatting with him is always an immense pleasure, because of his encyclopedic intelligence, and his recommendations are always spot on. Beyond that, Maverick's selection blows away any other shop in the area — I can, and have gotten carried away for an hour or more just thumbing through random boxes and finding amazing stuff in each one. Prices are remarkably reasonable across the board and one benefit of all of that backstock is that right behind the $9.95 NM copy of the book you're looking for there's going to be a $2.95 reader's grade copy of the same issue. One last thing that really sets Maverick's apart is that they understand that comic collectors are often parents and so they smartly cater to children as well as adults. There's a spinner rack of cheap kid-centric comics right inside the door, along with a box of cheap beanie babies, and not only do they order current comics for kids they also have great backstock as well. All this means that instead of my kid begging to leave every 2 minutes she can wander around the store on her own, pick out a few books or a toy, feel independent, and develop her love of reading. Their attention to detail is so thorough that they even have those comics on a lower table so they're at kid-level. Cincinnati is lucky to have quite a few comic shops that are pretty good, but only one can be the best and that is Maverick's, hands down.

Everytime I go to Mavericks it is a wonderful experience. The service is great and the store has a variety of collectible items.

Had a bad experience here my very first visit but the guys running the store have turned that around. I left a brutal review which I still feel was probably accurate, although as I come back here to read and update that review, looks like it's been removed. Anyways, we'll just say we got off on the wrong foot, but I like comics and this location has lots of good ones for sale, so over time this store has earned my business.
