Furious is an understatement. We received a statement in the mail today notifying us that we were delinquent ON A WATER BILL WE NEVER RECEIVED. We are in the process of building a home in Harrison County and they have the correct address. I am extremely prompt in paying all my bills early. I am in disbelief that we have never once received a piece of mail from the Harrison County Water Association until this delinquent bill notice. To top it off, they charged me $2.95 to pay the bill over the phone, which I wouldn’t dare go a second longer letting it be in “delinquent status.”

Approximately at least once every month, sometimes twice a month, without notice, our water service is temporarily suspended due to “flushing out the hydrants”, according to a Harrison County Water employee. This takes anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour that we are left in our home without NOTICE and without water. The last occurrence I was in the middle of a shower and today my child was in the middle of using the bathroom and couldn’t flush, nor properly wash hands afterwards. If notifications were sent out, as a family we could make adjustments accordingly. In addition to aggravations such as these, before water returns to the pipes, a high pitched whistling noise and air are pushed through each of our faucets (both kitchen & bathroom), tub, and toilet, then a brown rusty water sputters out before water that we call “normal” (but NEVER drink) returns. In my lifetime I have lived in 3 other counties, almost all of my years in the county, not city, and I have NEVER had this experience with a water company, nor needing to have “hydrants flushed” monthly (or sometimes more often) where my service has been interrupted. Only Ray, the “hydrant flusher”, can answer why the hydrants need flushing (to flush out the sediments in our water). Only Ray knows that this happens more than the regularly scheduled twice a year flush (bc I’m located at the end of a pipeline)-when I called today that’s what the Harrison County Water employee said, “hydrant flush only happens twice a year, spring and fall.” I’m still waiting for Ray’s return phone call to understand why we have so much sediment buildup in our pipelines? Is this safe for our drinking water? How can we be assured it’s safe if we’re having to flush out the hydrants so often? How does Ray know when to flush them out? Are we compensated for the interruption of our water service? Is there a way for Ray to communicate with the water company as to date(s) when the hydrant flushing(s) will occur so customers can plan accordingly? After experiencing this for quite some time we stopped drinking the water from the faucets, but I am definitely concerned about continuing to do such activities as play outside in this water, brush our teeth using the water, or bathe in this water, and yet we pay a pretty penny for it every month because what other option do we have on this road?
