Poor customer service and shotty equipment. I recently rented some equipment from Gerken which I spent most of my time getting to work. The Power washer took the salesperson 4 times to start (should have seen that as a sign) and then in the two hours I used it cut off 5 times on its own. Each time it cutoff (shut down) it would take about 10 minutes to get it restarted. Needless to say the two hours I had the machine I spent about an hour getting it started. When I returned it I notified the salesperson of the issue and their response was "oh". Nothing else. This isn't the first time I have had issues. I forgot to mention that when I got there on Saturday morning another customer and I stood for about 15 minutes at the counter with no employee present. I guess one was getting some equipment and the other was laying on the couch in the office (they should probably shut that door - it must have been a pretty good Friday night). I will take my rental needs elsewhere. Live and learn (so much for trying to help the local economy).

Time is money We recently rented a trencher from the Ottawa location. We thought that as a rental company they'd maintain their equipment, that they wouldn't rent out broken equipment. We went ahead and rented their trencher, we trusted that it was ready to rent. Broken equipment could be dangerous and costly to both the rental company and the renter. It had a hydraulic leak, it started small but it didn't have the power it should have had. We should have taken it back after going only 15ft per hour in the first 2hrs, we didn't, thats where we failed again. We called were told we could pick up hydraulic fluid for it and the leak just progressively got worse. My husband called and they compensated the additional time and offered to swap the gas trencher for the diesel trencher in the morning. The next morning the manager had no recollection of this agreement and said I could pick it up later that day. I called and found out after waiting a few hours that the other trencher had a leak as well. I called Home Depot and got a MAINTAINED trencher later in the day that went over the same ground at 50ft/hr. To get our trench to the depth we needed i had to clear the area around the trench and go over it again but when I got the MAINTAINED trencher it only needed 1 pass. The difference between the equipment was a mini skid with a trencher attachment and a walk behind trencher. The manager will likely argue my review, thats fine, but we're done renting from gerken. We will drive the extra distance and pay the extra for the additional time to get safe/MAINTAINED equipment from Home Depot. We should have had 250' dug in a day but instead we invested 3 days in a simple trench. I'd rather support local but sometimes local isn't economically feasible.

We rented tables and chairs for my daughters wedding and they were broken and dirty. They show white plastic tables and chairs on their website, however these were the brown with laminate on top. Most of them the laminate was gone and they were warped. The chars were white but dirty and stained. We did not have time before the wedding to get them cleaned and we had to cover the tables with a darker table clothe to cover the ugly brown underneath. I would NEVER recommend getting tables or chairs from this place,
