Stay away at all costs if possible… One day I made an appointment for 12 P.M. however I decided to show up early around 11 A.M. to see if I could get an early tour of the place. I got there about 11:05 A.M. and was greeted by someone by the name of Joe or Joseph. I told him I was a little early but hopefully he had time. He was friendly for the most part in the beginning. I was very much interested in reserving a property that day. Since it was my first time at a cemetery, I wanted to make sure all my important questions were answered because it’s a BIG decision and not to be taken lightly. Unfortunately Joe was rushing me to write a check cause he had an important appointment at 12 p.m. Due to his error on his part, he didn’t realize that I was the 12 o’clock appointment which I explained in the beginning upon arrival. I typically give everyone the benefit of the doubt and let that one slide. Maybe he was having a bad day… whatever On the day of the funeral, Joe called me back and said he needed me to go back to the cemetery and re-sign paperwork cause he accidentally overcharged me by $200 and there were mistakes on the applications that he wrote up. I had to do it literally AFTER the day of the funeral cause he is out of the office the rest of the week. No apologies for the inconvenience or anything. I rushed over from the funeral home as soon as I could, paperwork re-signed and everything. I finally got my family member settled into the cemetery and said my final goodbyes. I was advised that it would take a few days for the lettering to be completed which is fine so I patiently waited. A couple of days passed and I received a check for $100 in mail. Where did the extra $100 go? On the phone, Joe said overcharged me by $200. What are you guys doing over there? I finally showed up at the cemetery to see what the finalized lettering looked like and SURPRISE!!! Not only did they screw up the engraving they also moved the urn. Are people this incompetent? Perhaps this is a great learning opportunity. For anyone that is looking for a forever home for their loved ones, try to show some empathy and at least look out for the best interest for people, not sound like a used car salesman and rush people out the door. Show some compassion. I am not looking for excuses. I want a simple apology. That’s it! 9/9/2022 - *Update* Since my last review, Aurora, Director of Family Services Center was kind enough to give me a call and explain the situation. I'm very appreciative of the compassion and kindness that she has shown. I can say that I can sleep at night now knowing I made the right decision in placing my family here at Ascension Garden Cemetery.

Why do you have rules on decorations and plantings?

Ascension Garden Cemetery | Aug 5, 2022

With over 100 acres of land, the safety of the Rochester community and our employees is our primary focus. Therefore, we must take the utmost care in maintaining the safety on our grounds. Due to the cemetery’s size, very large number of burials and the need to maintain the grounds in a safe and efficient manner, there are rules regarding planting and decorations. A full list of regulations is provided with every purchase, at each of our cemeteries and are available digitally. These specific brochures govern decorations for graves, mausoleums and columbaria. Please refer to these brochures when planning decorations and if you have questions contact the Cemeteries’ offices. Our purpose is to care for those interred in our cemeteries while maintaining the beauty and safety that families have trusted for generations. Thank you for your ongoing support!

Yes, Ascension Garden Cemetery offers a variety of Green Burial options. For those seeking an eco-friendly burial, St. Francis Meadow offers green burial options on wooded trails and in a natural meadow. Hand-built stone walls, walking paths, and beautifully crafted benches offer space for quiet reflection. Natural field stones create lasting memorials for your loved ones. In 2013, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery & Ascension Garden became the first Catholic cemeteries in New York State to earn Green Burial Council Certification as approved providers of green burial grounds.
