We were extremely pleased with the complete makeover of our master bath by DreamMaker of Ann Arbor. We were working with a fairly small space and Macy Stutzman, our designer, listened to our ideas regarding what we were looking for in our bathroom remodel. She was very helpful in bringing those ideas together in a functional, very clean and modern looking bath. Her product and color suggestions were spot on. Our carpenter, Dave Burke, was amazing. He was a jack of all trades and did everything from installing the floor and wall tile, the cabinetry and the fixtures to doing all the trim work and painting the walls and ceiling. Not only was his work meticulous but he made sure everything was cleaned up completely before leaving each night. He also made sure light fixtures, medicine cabinets, towel bars and such were installed where we wanted and at the height we wanted. For the few things Dave couldn't do such as plumbing and electrical, DreamMaker made sure those contractors showed up on time and completed their work up to the same high standards. What impressed us most about DreamMaker was how very upfront they were with the timeline for our project. We were put on a waitlist just to get in to talk with someone but it was well worth the wait. We were kept informed of where we were on the list and when we did meet with Macy for the first time, she thoroughly explained how the entire process would work from cost and payments to actual construction. After making all of our product selections, we were given a firm price for our project and an estimated start date. While the start date was many months out, the project price remained fixed. Once they did give us a firm start date, they also gave us a completion date. Dave was here everyday like clockwork and the entire project was completed right on time, something that is rarely, if ever, seen with any contractor these days. We would definitely recommend DreamMaker to anyone considering a remodeling project.

DreamMaker B&K are amazing! Such good people who really listened and addressed all of our concerns. Kami Michaels came up with an awesome vision for our new kitchen and Travis Lashuay made it happen in a timely fashion with high quality workmanship and dedication. They even added on a side project in another room when we suffered some water damage. Can't thank them enough for making this massive Reno as painless as possible!

Info to save others time: Got a call from a very friendly and professional rep after hearing the catchy ads on AM1050. She told me the earliest they could get started with a bathroom remodel was about 5-6 months out and the average bathroom remodel they did was $65,000 (not a typo). Giving them five stars for the responsiveness, friendliness, and for honestly telling me my 20k budget wouldn't get me anywhere with them.

Questions & Answers

How long will my project take?

Once a design is complete, we will know exactly how long your project should take. Your designer can share this information with you. More often than not, we finish before the planned timeline. However, despite our best efforts in planning and execution, small issues can and do arise so we may not have your project completed within the planned timeline. Rest assured that every effort will be made to complete your project as close to the planned timeline as possible, so that you can use and love your new space as quickly as you can!

Do I need to be home while work is being done in my house?

This is entirely up to you -- our policy is whatever you are comfortable with. Some clients want to be there at all times, and others want to be out of the country! From experience, we have seen that the process is less stressful for clients that don’t feel they have to be there all the time.

How do you keep dust and dirt out of my home during a remodel?

Unfortunately, remodeling is an inherently dirty process. Many of the processes involved in remodeling create a fine dust that can be hard to contain. We will make every effort to keep dust from migrating to the rest of your home but of course, can’t promise that there won’t be any. Precautions we use include: • Floor protection from our point of entry to the work area, • Dust walls partitioning the work area from the rest of the house when possible, • The use of negative pressure airflow, when practical, to keep dust where it belongs.

My house was built before 1978. Do I have to worry about lead paint?

The federal government outlawed lead in residential paint in 1978. Homes built prior to that could theoretically have lead paint, but by the 1950s and 1960s, manufacturers were phasing it out anyway. By law, we are required to check for the presence of lead paint on surfaces that we are removing in any home built before 1978. This is generally done at the pre-production meeting or at the start of the job. If lead is found, DreamMaker and its staff are certified to safely remove this material from the home. If your home was built before 1978, you will be provided a pamphlet titled Renovate Right: Important Lead Hazard Information for Families, Child Care Providers and Schools.

How do you handle debris removal?

We remove all project debris from your home daily. To avoid the risk of damage to driveways and landscaping, we do not generally drop dumpsters on-site. However, for extremely large projects, we may need to have one. When an on-site dumpster is necessary, every precaution will be taken to protect your property, and its timeframe will likely be limited to the demolition phase of the project (usually not more than 1-2 days).

Who do I contact during the construction process with question or concerns?

We conduct a pre-production meeting prior to your project start date. At that meeting, you will be provided with contact information related to any production and scheduling concerns or questions. There will also be a daily communication notebook on-site for your Lead Carpenter to leave you notes and for you to reply, as necessary. Of course, your designer is still with you every step of the way, and you can always contact them with design questions (or to rave about how well things are going)!
