The Pissa Bird is a vital piece of Alton lore. It is a must-see for anyone visiting and is even worth traveling from out of state just to get a look at it. The caves are fun, too, if you don't mind a little bit of adventure.

It's a shame that the State has let this place become so run down. These pictures were taken at 9am on July 4th. Fireworks are illegal in Illinois, everybody breaks the law. But shooting them off in a protected area is disgraceful Also, this isn't the original Piasa. This is a bunch of art students recreation.

Great caves and trails It's a good idea that if you are going in the caves or lower trail to wear good hiking or muck boots

Nice rest stop, beautiful caves and old limestone mines. There are a few short hiking trails. Highly recommend if you like to explore! One caution, the mines can be dangerous! Bring lights!

There's a fence up front but if you go around the back side you can walk right in.
When we went we weren't able to see the waterfall, just the mouth of the cavern and the picture of the bird.
Few years ago few people decide to go inside cave and they never come back, police found them dead. I was there yesterday , be careful.
