It really depends on what breed of dogs you have. I have a husky and they often would rather have puppy food. We had this trouble with him in the beginning so we used to mix some leftover meat in with the dry food.

I use Earthbath for my husky, the 2 in one but there are conditioners that help you with that. But Earthbath is what i use andnits pretty good.
Ur cat may not like how ur treating him n my not feel comfortable. Try designating an area just for your cat so the Cat knows it has its own space make sure he has lots of play time and toys. If ur cat isnt getting enough play time he may get irritated with u. Try a play then eat routine. A routine may help ur cat
