I'm flattered that they think my review is "well-crafted". Seriously though, don't take my word for it, do your own research. Tl;dr Their service isn't awesome, but usable if you don't need much. Their pricing may not be as great as it seems. Do your own research into equipment because they'll probably try to sell overkill equipment. If you're concerned with pricing I would recommend looking into other providers. Echo Broadband's top broadband plan is more expensive and gives you drastically less throughput than Xfinity's cheapest plan for this area. Though, with Xfinity you can generally expect to only receive about 80% of the advertised top speed. They have latency issues. I had their internet for about a year and with their recommended router and being hard-wired to the router I never had a ping better than 70ms and I averaged about 95ms when playing Overwatch and Apex Legends. It only improved when Matt, one of the owners, bypassed the throttling equipment where it went down to 50ms. To give you some perspective, both Xfinity and CenturyLink customers in the area get less than 40ms with Overwatch. If you're into gaming then I'd avoid this provider. They claimed that I didn't have a good connection to the tower, but I've tested the speed at other Echo Broadband customers homes and didn't see any substantial improvements. I'd give them another star if they would improve their latency. They'll probably try to push expensive, overkill equipment onto you. I would recommend a cheaper router from Amazon or other retailers. The Tp-Link Archer A7 is a gigabit router and you can usually get it between $50 - $90. I am currently using one for my gigabit internet. When I scheduled to have my equipment uninstalled I very clear about wanting to be notified before anyone was on my roof and they failed to notify me. This is a common occurrence. If you live higher up the mountains they may be able to get to you when other providers can't. I wasn't going to bring this up, but on the topic of being terminated, Matt told me that he was moving me off phones full-time to do Dev Ops full-time then the next day told me that I was being terminated for the "unresolved performance issues" after I walked him through the steps I had taken to resolve said issues he eventually told me that they couldn't afford a full-time developer. It's water under the bridge at this point, I just don't appreciated the defamation. Be wary of manipulation.

I’ve had this service for too long unfortunately In the beginning ( 8 years ago ) it was great. Sadly the past 2-3 years have gone down hill. As mentioned - if you need service to depend on for your livelihood - look elsewhere. Not alot of options in Bountiful - but Echo isn’t it. We could go a couple weeks of great then 3-4 days of lagging and up and down. Always an excuse. Excuses are ok - if it wasn’t always an uncontrollable excuse. These things need to be monitored closer. People depend on service. You don’t sell candy - you sell service. As the VP of the 4th largest manufacturer in the US - service is vital to continued success. Always staying one step ahead of customers is most important. We have a customer base of 3.7 million. The most humiliating part - being on a video conference and going dark due to service. Every single time. History of customers is not kept in the system - so each time it’s a new adventure to explain. Does anyone have time for that ? Finally - after 2 solid weeks of problems and excuse after excuse - I fired Echo. If you are looking for home service to surf the web - this is it. If you need more - this isn’t it. ( I was even told twice to go to Starbucks and finish my video call ) Peace out Echo.

Support local. Avoid Comcast and Centurylink. If the rest of these 5-star reviews aren't enough to convince you to choose Echo, continue reading to find out why I, as an IT professional, recommend them over any other ISP. Before we made the switch to Echo several years ago, Centurylink was the only major ISP in our private development, and the speeds and prices and contracts were awful. I didn't hesitate to drop Centurylink after I discovered Echo, and haven't looked back since. If you're like most people, you've probably only had service with large ISPs like Comcast and Centurylink, and you'll notice that Echo does things differently--but they do them RIGHT. Echo is a small, local business. What matters is that their internet service is reliable, and the cost and speeds are highly competitive with larger ISPs. The biggest difference you'll notice is that Echo treats you like a human instead of a dollar sign, and Centurylink and Comcast can't touch Echo's honest and transparent customer service. For example, after an outage, they sent an email to affected customers to explain what happened, what they did to address it, and how they plan to prevent it from happening again. If you think you'll get that kind of honesty and transparency from Centurylink or Comcast, you're wrong. With Echo, nothing is complex or cumbersome. Pricing is transparent and fixed, with no contracts. That means you don't have to play the game of negotiating lower rates with a "loyalty department" because your rates increase every time your contract expires. You don't have to spend hours of you time trying to get ahold of the right team or person to solve your problem. Your call doesn't go to an offshore call center. Unlike larger ISPs, Echo doesn't get ancillary revenue from charging various fees, locking customers into contracts, imposing penalties for canceling service, or forcing customers to lease equipment. This is why you might pay for installation or service calls with Echo that the larger ISPs may advertise as being "free." Bottom Line: Reach out to Echo and see what they have to offer in your area before you lock yourself into (or renew) a contract with Centurylink or Comcast.

Questions & Answers

Had the service for over a year, and am satisfied for the most part, with that said, the 6or7 times we have called for support, no one answers, and no one calls back, what’s the point of leaving a message no one will respond to?

Streaming HD movies typically takes 5-6Mbps, so with 20Mbps you could easily watch 4 movies at the same time. Gaming generally doesn't require much data to play online. You can adjust your plan at Echo on a dime and any difference in price is pro-rated.

My kids (3 of them) are on their Xbox quite a bit and i use netflix and hulu. Is the $45 plan worth it or would it be slow for all of us being on at the same time?

Jessica Christensen | Oct 4, 2019
Richard O'Neil | Oct 4, 2019

That plan will be plenty for what your using. You could throw 2 or three hd Netflix streams while all three of your kids are playing on their xboxs and still have some bandwidth leftover.

The rates have never changed in the 2 years of my service. Updated, my monthly price has gone up $3 per month, the first time in 3 yrs. Still reasonable, great service.
