Not bad cemetary, but sus area surrounding it. Was recommended by a weirdo. Tons of carjackings. Beware of the area. Philly has gone downhill big time.

Volunteers are working hard to bring it back to its former glory. Worth a visit, very cool π₯°

The cemetery is still in rough shape, but progressively getting better with volunteer efforts, hard work and donations. It will never be a showplace, but it is becoming a decent, safe place to visit. Access is restricted to prevent vandalism and trash dumping.

If you enjoy abandoned history, this place is worth the pitstop. There's a tiny gravel parking lot off the main road with the cemetery on both sides of the street. Opened in 1855, the historic cemetery was ignored for a long time until a group of dedicated activists started restoring it. You can see their progress, but there are still bits needing love.

The cemetery is open to visitors. The gate, accessible from Cobbs creek parkway, to the portion in Yeadon is open on weekends. You can always park outside the gate and walk in. The entrance to the Philadelphia side is 601 Kingsessing Ave. Open Friday thru Monday, weather permitting
Both answers are actually fairly wrong, when the last care taker finally passed away both towns argued over who's responsibility it was to maintain the cemetery. Neither side budged so it sat unmaintained for decades slowly becoming forested over what was once a cemetery. All the clean up and trash removal, tree removal, pruning, mowing, weed whacking, etc is done by volunteers these days so it's slow going. I help maintain the National Cemetery sections at Mount Moriah and in the last 3 years alone the amount of clean up done by volunteers is amazing and I imagine in another year or two it will be cleaned up entirely!
See the news and events tab on the webpage for information about cleanup events and monthly mowing event. http://friendsofmountmoriahcemetery.org.
The cemetery was abandoned by the management in 2011. The Friends of Mount Moriah Cemetery, a nonprofit organization, stepped in and now is cared for by the volunteers of the organization It is open for visitation but there are no burials being performed within as of now.
Because Mount Moriah Cemetery is under the care of a receivership established by the Orphans Court of Philadelphia, you must petition that court for permission to place a headstone.
Gates are open go for it
