Disappointing experience. I consigned over 200 antique samplers with Garth's in November 2019. From the very beginning, the company failed to pay promptly and never provided comprehensive breakdowns of what was sold and what wasn't. They failed to pay for some auctions until I contacted them via email and phone (in some cases it took more than a dozen tries on my end to get any reponse at all), and they never paid for everything that they took on consignment and simply quit listing the remaining items. I have never been able to get a comprehensive listing of what each item sold for, so I have no idea how much more money might be owed me--but I know they have paid less than half their estimates as to what I should expect to get from the auction of these items. Haven't heard from them at all for more than six months now. And even when they weren't paying on time or providing information, they were trying to get me to consign other items to them. Communication is very bad, estimates are inaccurate, payment is sporadic and late, and documentation is nonexistent.. I cannot recommend them, unfortunately.

Very delighted with high-end replica of an Eli Terry Pillar & Scroll clock... These are for sale just under $2,000.00 and I got this in a Garth's auction for $325.00 plus premium and tax... When the clock arrived it was not working but after cleaning and oiling with a little vibration to release the drive gear the clock has been running for days without even needing adjustment for accuracy... I was very concerned about third-party shipping but The UPS Store chosen from Garth's list, delivered it well packed and in excellent shape...

We have been buying with Garth’s for about the last 10 years. They’ve supplied much of our furnishings and helped to add to our personal collection of fun antique objects and art. Have to say we are thankful for the move to downtown Cbus and we are eagerly anticipating the Thanksgiving auction, as we do every year!

What doe it cost to have someone come to my house to price a chest of drawers and a chair - both antiques, I believe?

Nothing, just call them

I have a couple of boxes with items from my grandmother. Is it possible to send photos for appraisals or even product information? Or is there another day other than the last Tuesday that I can bring them in? I cannot get that day off.

Just call them and set another time that works best for you

On your monthly walk-in appraisal day, is there a limit on the number of objects I can bring? I have a small painting, a small vase and an 1860's cane-seat bamboo side chair, so do I have to change waiting-lines for each object?

Why did you move from Delaware !!

Patricia and Tom Bauman | Oct 3, 2020
Garth's Auctioneers & Appraisers | Oct 3, 2020

We outgrew our original location which was then offered to the Delaware Historical Society as its new home and event venue. . Through the exciting move to our downtown Columbus location, we look forward to delivering a state-of-the-art auction experience, in a historic venue, with greater accessibility to both our gallery and offices, as well as the wonderful objects we handle. When we began the search for only the second location since 1954, we knew two things: the new facility had to evoke just a bit of the heartfelt emotion associated with the beloved Barn at Stratford, and the choice needed to help us solidify the next 60 years for both the company and our clients. Ultimately, we found the historic Municipal Light Plant, the circa 1895 brick-built, first power plant for the city of Columbus. We are thrilled to be part of both its important preservation and bright, energetic (pun intended) future.

Is an appraisal possible from pictures? I have pictures of broken objects from packers, as well as pictures of the same that are unbroken. How do I go about it?
