To call this place a formal campground is a bit of a stretch. Some campsites are decent, others are worse than pull offs you'd find on forest roads, and cramped together. It's organized in such a way that some areas feel like a group campground, even though sites are individual. Others are exposed to campground traffic. There is no water besides the creek that runs through (which is nice). Pit toilets are clean. There is trash and recycling service. Campground is conveniently close to town, but there is no host, so it could be a potential free for all. Is it worth $14? Considering it's the only campground in Big Pine that's open during off season and not right next to the highway, yes. But there are way nicer and cheaper BLM campgrounds near Lone Pine and Independence. P.S. Most sites can be reserved, but when you buy a camping ticket it doesn't specify site number, and it's not tied into reservation system. So potentially, if you just drive in without reservation, pick an unreserved site and purchase more than one night, someone can then book online on top of you.

Baker Campground is a great group of section campsites. With most set right on the mountain cold water running streams throughout the campground. Restrooms are also placed in each section. A bit warm now given it is middle of August. Yet manageable. Fall and early late spring and early summer! Surely a campers paradise. $$ rates are very reasonable per night. VERY! This time of year... Take a mosquito enclosure net thing too.

Aside from being right down in the valley which tends to have high temperatures during the day and it being really dusty, I'd say this campground is well maintained and free from trash. It is very close to town so you get a few people driving by that'll only kick up more dust. This being the reason I took off a star. The bathrooms are clean and the fire pits had been emptied recently. The camp site are fairly close together but there was only one other person camping there when we were. There's a really small creek that runs through the campground and two little ponds which are really fun to explore and fish with young kids. Aside from all the dust I'd give this a 4 star review.

Came camping for Memorial Day weekend, we had spots 14,15,16 which says it’s walk in sites. You can park pretty close and cross a 2’ wide 6’ bridge to get to the campsites, there’s only 2 entrance to the little island so if you have site 14 and people you don’t know have the other sites they will be walking through your site the entire trip. Really pretty area, for fishing you have the two ponds which people flock to whether they are. Amping or just swing by to fish so it does get crowded . There are soothing creeks by your tent the water. Was pretty fast moving so no fishing for us and then it was windy. Wildlife was no problem except one night the trash pandas (raccoons) came and got into some chips . Rangers did a good job site was clean and so were restrooms. There is no water onsite so bring your own and the chevron in town sells fishing licenses ! That’s all I got have fun
