Indian Island county park is a unique experience, between the beautiful camping families thriving in the evenings and the magic of nature, this park is truly a sight to behold....that is until sunrise when an unsightly trash man comes in pestering the peaceful campers checking for registration at daybreak... if you watch closely he can be seen stalking the families, hovering like some kind of giant mosquitoe. Speaking of his kin, there is a cloud of them that blanket the hiking trail, a few feet in the swarm thickened to an unmanageable point, it was clear that nature doesn't want humans here... and that's ok

Yes You need a Suffolk County Green Key pass to make reservations online. Do so 6 months in advance to try and get an electric site! Rarely can you "walk in" and get electric during the summer.
Yes but sites are extremely limited as in high demand and need to reserve months in advance as limited sites also. They do have a rv/camper family or group area if you can get multiple RVs or campers to go upto 10 sites I believe but must reserve with 6 rv/camper minimum. It has a large fire pit area in that section as well for awesome nights by the fire! Enjoy!!
No, but you can rent them in River Head. They will deliever them.
Yes, on leash only. If you're camping you can use a tie-out that doesn't let your pet past the edge of your campsite. (usually 6') Also, they can't be left tired out of nobody is with them.
You can get pretty close, close enough to carry a kyack or lightweight boat, approximately within 300feet of water.....
There is a beach, on the Peconic, they swim there, but the beach isn't officially open for swimming
Are tiny houses welcome?? They are considered an RV...
No designated launch. But its a short walk from the parking area, across the sand, to water. Prob a 1-2 minute kayak drag. Also if you park at the first parking area on the right (not up by the picnic table loop) you can put in on the left side of the road by the reeds. Thats only 15ft to the water and you are in a little cove area. Also, if you are camping, you can launch on the southernmost campsite road through the opening in the reeds there. You will paddle out by the golf course and a small inlet. (No parking at that spot) See google maps satellite to see it. π
Beach is open year round
On the weekends they charge and you will pay more without a green key M-F has been no charge
There is a daily fee to use the park . You need a green key to camp, there are different rates depending on what type of green key you have
? Don't understand the question
A great park to enjoy a day walking biking picnicking o yeah camping.and you can fish there too
No, There are open pavilions but you must provide your own canopy
Yes
Only electric sites have fire rings. BYO fire ring. We have a Camco folding metal one that packs up to the size of a tall notebook from Amazon. Search for "portable folding camp fire ring"
Yes and they will also ask you to buy a county parking permit (Green key permit), valid for a year, for $50.
Tent spots have water only.
Is it a loud generator ?? We didn't even bring one.. Most people had a camper or bus of some sort with tents .. We had tents and propane BBQs plus a camp fire. I definitely wouldnt run a loud one at night
Yes - there were many dogs when we came on July 4
I'm sorry that would not be a problem. I'm sorry to hear that.
Yes, Rental public bathroom ( the plastics)
No, seasonal
As far as I know, yes. There may be a license or permits required to fish at the county park however.
Price depends on 2 things what type of site and If you have a suffolk greenkey
All three group camping sites would be needed. The picnic area could probably accommodate half that number of 700. You can call the Suffolk County Park department.
You can come and go as you like. You do NOT need a permit to walk around or go to the beach. Just park in the bathroom parking lots, not in the RV areas.
Normally during summer season is a 4 night reservation minimum. You can show up and try to get site if u have a tent. If u have camper then slim to no chance . U can make a reservation 3 months in advance and people sit up to be the first to reserve on line. https://parks.suffolkcountyny.gov U can go to any park and get a green key card which gives u access to all of the nys / county parks and reduce fees for parking and reservations. U can also use it to purchase reduced yearly beach permit to drive on outer beaches.
No dog park but plenty of places to walk the dogs as long as you keep them on a leash.
But can I use a fire ring that sits on the ground? In other words it is not a pit, it has no bottom to it, just a metal ring that sits on the ground.
Not really worth it. It's more of a snapper spot. No restrictions that I know of. The sand fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes will welcome you
You have to be a club to book a group site. At the beginning of the year they do a lottery for the group sites. Minimum on none holiday is 7 campers, on holidays its 10 campers.
