My dad passed recently and I felt the need to share with other families about our experience with the Memory Care facility here. During my entrance interview I mentioned that I didn't like my dads brand new meds because they made him hallucinate. The Memory Care Director told me not to touch them. Then she and community sales director started laughing. They said they all hallucinate. It's no big deal. I should have walked out then but I was desperate at the time. Sure enough my dad was settling in nicely when he had his first incident 2.5 months in. They told me he was running around the halls and sadly two residents were knocked over, a lamp was broke and a table turned over. He told the doctor at the hospital he was running away from a swarm of bees. The sad part is you never believe someone with dementia. It was his first offense. He was kicked out. What really got me is there were no eye witnesses because all the staff were helping residents in the rooms. Is it my dads fault or the facilities fault there weren't more employees around to help redirect my dad from his behaviors? That is their job and why we paid to place him at Arbor Terrace. My dad was stage 7, still mobile and deserved more space to roam. Even though the transition to hospital and behavior facility to fix his meds was one of the hardest parts of our dementia journey it led us to a better facility (Arden Courts KOP) that was more well suited and had better care. Just wanted to share in case I can save someone the same heartache we suffered at Arbor Terrace.
