Looks like a nice place, but when we got there, there was graffiti and trash. Saw quite a few homeless people walking around and pushing shopping carts. Didn't feel super safe walking under the bridge. Couldn't tell which path takes you to the water so we turned around. Makes me sad to see how disrespected the area is.

Located in a protected natural area along Butte Creek and the adjacent canyon, Butte Creek Ecological Preserve on Honey Run Road in Chico features a variety of environments home to an abundance of plant and animal species. The preserve is particularly popular with bird watchers who come to observe falcons, wading birds, woodpeckers, waterfowl, and hummingbirds. During the spring and summer, the creek’s shores are often awash in large tracts of vibrant multicolored wildflowers. The preserve offers multiple beaches that are great places to while away a summer afternoon swimming, sunbathing, and picnicking.

It's a nice place for a quick walk near the creek. Also near the old train trestle. Dogs like it.

I love being near the water but especially a creek or river---something about the sound of the water cascading over rocks or the gentle lapping against the sides of the boat when im on the Sacramento River....its where i find peace.
