I don't recommend working at this Fluor office if you are a mechanical engineer. I worked at this office for 18 months in a contract position on a nuclear power plant project. The contract position was through a staffing company called TRS. A senior level mechanical engineer, Bill Carnes, lost his temper on me several times for no reason. His angry outbursts were witnessed by other engineers to include my direct supervisor, Kirk Scogin. I did not feel comfortable approaching him. I was told by a coworker, Johnell Lynch, that Mr. Carnes disparaged me behind my back. Mr. Carnes apparently told my direct supervisor that I lied about a traffic accident as an excuse for being late to work one morning. In a meeting with the department supervisor and two HR representatives, Mr. Carnes denied that he had called me a liar behind my back. He also denied he had become angry at me on several occasions. The TRS representative, Sarah Cox, asserted in a hostile way that Johnell Lynch's allegation is 'just hearsay' despite it being a firsthand account. The department supervisor, Tom Burns, and the Fluor HR representative did not dispute her false assertion. A fair group of people would have talked to Johnell and my direct supervisor rather than characterize Johnell's allegation as unreliable. My direct supervisor, Kirk Scogin, should be able to corroborate Johnell's account. They disrespected Johnell in this meeting by implying that she lied about Mr. Carnes. Given the hostile nature of this meeting, I decided to resign from the company. A week later, I offered to go back. My direct supervisor and the project manager approached the department supervisor, Tom Burns, about bringing me back. He would not let me come back. He smeared me as disrespectful. This was a retaliation. Mr. Burns did not have a single meeting with me in 18 months despite being in my supervision. He met with Mr. Carnes in private but not with me after I raised the issue about Mr. Carnes. Mr. Burns did not have a problem with Mrs. Cox speaking to me in a hostile way. She was rude to me because she understood Mr. Burns was in the tank for Mr. Carnes. Mr. Burns disrespected me. Mr. Burns did not fire Mr. Carnes for his disrespectful behavior and dishonesty about it. This hypocritical decision is more evidence that he retaliated against me. He should be fired for violating Fluor's ethics policy. Johnell said these Fluor people were hostile with her as well after I left. I believe she would repeat her allegation about Mr. Carnes to a judge under oath. No fair person would agree with Mr. Burns and Fluor that Johnell's account is not credible. Tom Burns, the mechanical engineering department supervisor, does not have a degree in mechanical engineering or a professional engineering license. It is unethical and irrational for Fluor to offer a non-engineer the mechanical engineering department supervisor position. This is analogous to a judge not having a law degree and license.

Overall a good company. Their HR department is a mess.
