Special Thanks to Mr. Johnny Brown, for the following outstanding skills demonstrated throughout our tour Professionalism Knowledgeable of Black History Informative!

I like to travel… and I’ve been on a lot of tours and this was by far the worse. Upon arriving we weren’t sure where we should meet “him” and he wasn’t answering the phone. So we asked some others that were waiting and they were unsure and stated that they had also called several times with no answer. He finally arrive. So about the tour, your put on an air conditioned bus which is a plus. There’s water for sale on the bus. Another plus. But I think the brochure should state that it’s an off and on again type of tour. Some in our group weren’t capable of walking the distances. The tour guide isn’t very interactive. While on the bus he puts on a history channel video clip for you to watch while you ride the bus. That put me to sleep. There were 5 others around me that also dozed off. The tour needs to have someone more upbeat and personable.

I had expressed interest in a Black history tour of Savannah and my Uber driver had provided a flier for this tour. I called the owner and asked about the tour and said I was interested in doing it on my last day in Savannah. When I arrived at the visitors’ center, I was told to wait on the bench and he would pull up. We (myself and others in the group) saw a church bus circle the lot and leave but again, we weren’t sure if that was him. One of the visitor center staffers came out and we told her that we had seen the bus. She said it was Johnny, the tour operator, and she told us to call and see if he would circle back. I called him and he’s immediately rude and yelling that we had to meet him at his sign by the trolley tours. Meanwhile, he had said nothing about the bus he has for the tour ( It’s from the Thankful Missionary Baptist Church) or a sign when I called him and this information is NOT on the flier. Based off this interaction, I don’t recommend this tour ( the staffer at the visitor center also said he’s always late). There are too many other Black history tour operators in Savannah and I will be sure to check out one of them next time. I did have an amazing tour on the Gullah Geechee history of Savannah from Sister Vaughnette and I highly recommend that one instead. I plan to do the Day Clean Tour next time I’m in Savannah for a Black history tour. The owner, Dr. Amir Jamal Toure, was friendly and I called him immediately after and he sent all the information I needed to schedule a tour.

I'm not sure if there is a military discount or not. My husband and I paid about $25 dollars for the tour. I don't remember exactly.
