A fascinating little area that features a self-guided walking tour through the remains of this 18th century settlement. The location itself is quite scenic and peaceful, being located right along the river - I noticed many of the people there (it was by no means busy when I went on a Saturday) seemed to just be there to enjoy the nature. A very worthwhile stopover if you're interested in the area's history. There was no gate or park ranger, although visiting here does cost $3 per adult, paid on the honour system via drop envelope.

We came on a Friday morning and it was great because we pretty much had the park to ourselves.

Per their website: "Yes, fishing is allowed at Colonial Dorchester. To protect the natural and historical resources, fishing should be limited to the area behind the fort or the area behind the restrooms. A South Carolina freshwater fishing license is required."

It is a beautiful casual walk.
Not near this park, you might want to Google that first.. see below... The Black River is a 151-mile-long blackwater river in South Carolina in the United States. It courses through Sumter, Clarendon, and Williamsburg counties before merging with the Great Pee Dee River in Georgetown County.
