This sounds weird but I had a great and easy experience at the social security office. I wanted to be the first person since the social security office can easily turn into a DMV style of waiting. I showed up at 8:30am on a Friday and waited by the door. They unlocked the door at 8:45am, I took a ticket and was able to sit in the waiting area. I was seen immediately at 9:00am, changed my last name and was out the door within 10 minutes! You still have to wear a mask, I didn’t have one and the friendly security guard had a box ready and gave me one.

This place is never open anymore. All it does is refer you to online and phone numbers. Social Security is important and one of the few essential office that should be open. Not close.

If I could put 0 stars I would. Awful customer service by phone. I called in for USCIS immigration purposes (EAD and SSN) and the lady that answered my call was so rude and told me "I don't know what you're talking about, it has nothing to do with us, you need to figure it out on your own", being that the USCIS page clearly states that if you receive your EAD card but not your SSN (that you applied for previously), you should call an SSA office to further assist you. 0 knowledge, and rude as heck. Can't believe it.
