STAY AWAY from this dentist. I had been going here for a few years with my AETNA dental access plan she accepted. When I needed to have an implant done she begged me to let her do it instead of an oral surgeon. I trusted her and agreed. Big mistake. I noticed the bills were adding up to the full price of $5,500. She was not going through my dental plan. Once I was in the middle of the process I had no choice but to pay what she wanted. I did recoup $400 after she finished by demanding to see the itemized bills which she did not want to give me initially. Dr. Gerfen is dishonest and her receptionist was rude and down right nasty because I wanted to get to the bottom of this rip off! They ought to be ashamed of themselves. Like I said STAY AWAY!!

Dr. Gerfen and her staff provide a high level of dental patient care. The doctor is thorough and skillful. Every step is explained, and attention is paid to patient comfort. The staff is personable, helpful, and pleasant. I highly recommend Soams Dental Care.

Every time I went to this dentist they just wanted my money. They told me that multiple fillings wouldn't go over my covered insurance amount and then followed up with sending me a bill for overages. When I expressed concern about my teeth seeming to shift Dr. Gerfen told me told me that my wisdom teeth couldn't cause my teeth to move (I had corrective braces when I was younger so I can tell my teeth aren't as straight as they once were on the bottom). I am now going to have to look into both getting my wisdom teeth removed (she told me this wasn't a concern) and potentially explore a solution to my teeth moving. While removing my wisdom teeth was apparently not a concern, she was insistent a get a cavity filled in one (I assume this is because if they get removed they get no money, but they do get paid for fillings). I'm also suspicious I of the fillings I got in this office becasue instead of using just standard filling material the dentist used small cotton balls to fill in some of the cavity and put filling material over the top - I have since been told by others this is generally only used for temporary fillings (obviously that isn't what I paid for). Looking for a new dentist? I recommend looking elsewhere, unless you like being told you need to have expensive procedures done after every appointment.

What should I expect after tooth extraction?

Soams Dental Care | Jan 5, 2022

You should be able to return to work, school, or your daily life after the procedure. However, you'll want to avoid eating until the numbness wears off. You may also experience slight tenderness and sensitivity surrounding that tooth, especially if there was an infection, for a few days. Eating soft foods while avoiding that tooth and taking over-the-counter pain medication will help ease discomfort. In many cases, you'll need to revisit us to have a crown placed to fully restore the tooth's appearance, strength, and function.

Is a tooth extraction painful?

Soams Dental Care | Jan 5, 2022

No! A tooth extraction procedure shouldn't hurt when done by a trained professional with modern technology and tools. In fact, the pain associated with a tooth extraction actually stems from the pain caused by the infection inside your tooth before getting treatment. What are the consequences of missing teeth?

Missing one tooth, let alone more, can cause a host of problems. This includes difficulty chewing, speech impairment, bite changes, jaw pain, adjacent teeth shifting to the gap followed by other teeth moving out of place, premature aging, sunken facial appearance, lowered confidence, and more. Luckily, there are multiple options for replacing missing teeth. Contact us for a consultation.

When should I consider dental implants?

Soams Dental Care | Jan 5, 2022

A dental implant is an excellent choice for replacing a missing, broken, or severely decayed tooth. It's the only restoration that'll replace an entire tooth from root to crown. This helps to make the implant look, feel, and function like a real tooth. No one will notice! Contact us to book a dental implants consultation.
