Dover Plains is a nice little town. I was able to take a taxi from Dover Plains to Kent Falls State Park in CT. There is a wonderful little diner where i was able to get a bit to eat before my train. I love the small houses. The people were very helpful and friendly.

Single-platformed station, so trains switch tracks when passing in opposite directions. A walkway across the tracks allows pedestrians to cross from one side to the other. Heated enclosure for waiting in cold conditions... though the homeless have commandeered it. Parking ample for this station’s usual volume. There is even an old stationhouse, which looks mostly abandoned. Digital signs shows the pending arrivals, and vending machines on the platform allow travellers to purchase tickets in advance.

I alwyas just passing the station right now take look (commuter rail stop on the Metro North) Waiting warm booths room but right now the homeless enjoy.

Yes. It's best to use the MTA schedule website. It's on the wassaic branch of the Harlem line.
There is no direct train from Dover Plains to Botanical Gardens. Depending on the time, you would have to change trains at either Southeast Station or North White Plains Station.
