Therapy can bring to light the things that you otherwise may not talk about with others. Sometimes these topics are painful (hence, why you may not bring them up with others). Addressing these concerns may be uncomfortable at first but just like how we put hydrogen peroxide on a wound, sometimes it’s worth the pain in the beginning in order to ensure the wound heals properly.
Most importantly in choosing a therapist is to make sure she/he is the right fit for you. Do you feel comfortable with this person? Do you feel seen, validated, respected? Next, does this person feel competent in their ability to help you? Your relationship with your therapist is one focused on healing. To ensure this can happen you must 1) feel comfortable enough to be open and honest with your therapist and 2) have a sense that they possess the skill-set to help. Feel free to ask your therapist questions about how they work, what they specialize in, etc. in order to ensure that this is the best person to work with you.
Therapy is a space where you can go to speak about issues that concern you with someone who is outside of your family or friend group. This is helpful because you can speak freely without risk of judgment or repercussions. Therapy gives you a space where you can explore your thoughts and ideas in order to become more of the person who you want to be.
No, but I can provide you with an invoice that you can submit to your insurance in order to see if they will reimburse you.
My sessions are generally 50 minutes. These sessions are $120, although I do have some slots in my practice that are dedicated to sliding scale.
