this is a beautiful library with enormous amount of natural light. however , i always thought the staff were under-qualified and not true librarians. they keep arranging the furniture as if it’s their living room with no understanding of specificities of a public library space. almost every other month they rearrange with no sense of architectural logic and sensible planning. additionally , the staff needs to be reminded that they work for the public in a public building and their wages come from public taxes. they need to be mindful of public’s health and well being while they are using the library. during the covid compulsory mask period i complained to one of the staff members about a person who was not only not wearing a mask but also constantly coughing. the staff member came over to the area where this sick person was sitting and with a very loudly declared that it’s not in their power to enforce the newly adopted regulation of fairfax county. she made sure she was loud enough so that everyone in the library hears her. and that this person does not have to wear a mask even though a gigantic poster in the lobby said exactly the opposite. i was very annoyed and approached the library manager who i had had very good experience with before. she is very professional and reasonable. she immediately took control of the situation and reminded the coughing person of the regulations and resolved the situation without creating a scene or using loud and obnoxious voice. that manger has since retired, unfortunately and i have also changed library.
