Questions & Answers

If my spouse and I live in different states, can we get a divorce in either state?

The answer is "it depends." In Maryland if you have resided in the state for more than 6 months, you can file for divorce there. Your spouse, if he or she lives elsewhere may also be eligible under that state's law to file in that state. And if the grounds for divorce occurred in the State of Maryland, either of the parties may file for divorce in Maryland.

How much does a typical divorce cost?

Many people ask what will my divorce cost? There is no simple answer as there is no such thing as a "typical" divorce. Every case is unique in its facts and circumstances. The one way to assess the financial costs of your divorce is, with the help of your lawyer, determine what the issues are that are contested or what you are truly fighting over in your divorce. Depending on how aggressive your spouse is or will become may determine if your divorce is high conflict. The financial costs are extensive in these cases. Keep in mind that negotiation and mediation are always options and you should have an experienced, tenacious, aggressive divorce attorney on your side every step of the way.
