My fiance and I recently adopted a 4 month old pitbull mix from Heritage where we did not have the best adoption experience. My fiance is a disabled veteran and we wanted a dog to train as a service animal to help him manage his disabilities. Based on the reviews we read online, we believed this was the perfect place to start. Although we are happy with our new puppy, we are very unhappy with the level of customer service we received from some of the staff members. The customer service supervisor Jasmine was not very customer service friendly when it came to our interactions with her. There was a lot of miscommunication with the information we received from her and other staff members in regards to our puppy being spayed. We also were not given any history about the dog so we have no idea where she came from. We were told she just needed a few vaccinations and to be spayed where we were told by Matt that we could not adopt her until another 2 weeks because she needed time to heal from the surgery. Jasmine reached out to us via email and informed us that Matt had given us incorrect information and that our dog would be ready within 2-3 days of her surgery which I thought was unusual based on the information I was reading online about spaying/neutering surgery. However, I did not give it much thought because I trusted that Jasmine knew what she was talking about. We signed the adoption form in August while the Plinko game was going on. However, when we played the game, Jasmine refused to honor the terms that were listed on their business website where we should have been given the opportunity to adopt our puppy for free. We played the game twice and landed on free but were told by Jasmine that the terms had been changed recently and we could not adopt our dog for free which is very misleading and disceptive. Instead she offered us a free cow ear from their store which ended up irritating our puppies gums so I had to throw it in the trash. We asked Jasmine about their Kibble Kitchen program in order to be aware of all of the resources that were available to help us in the event we needed the help and she made some inappropriate comments that insinuated that we would take advantage of the program which was very insulting to us. I reached out to heritage with our complaint to which they have not responded. It has been almost a month since adoption and not 1 person from Heritage has contacted us to resolve these issues. We are highly disappointed and regret choosing Heritage to adopt as we feel were hustled out of $200 in adoption fees. In addition, our puppy was not trained or house broken and she also has some behavioral issues that we are trying to work through on our own because we dont want to give up on her. After this experience, we were left with the impression that our race was a huge factor in how we were treated. Jasmine was very condescending at times during our interactions with her where we were left with the impression that she does not like black people or maybe she is just in tye wrong position because her customer service skills are lacking. It was just not a pleasant experience. I would not recommend Heritage to anyone in the community due to their poor communication skills and customer service, and failure to resolve customer complaints in a timely fashion. I do feel like the adoption fee was quite high considering that our dog was not trained, house broken and has some behavioral issues. Although they did offer us a 10% discount for my fiance being a veteran we are still dissatisfied with how we were treated throughout the adoption process. Also, while visiting Heritage for the second time, we noticed that several dogs had urine in their rooms where we feel that they are not being walked or taken out on a regular basis to relieve themselves. It was quite disturbing and I hope that the staff members are doing a better job with taking them out so that they are not urinating where they sleep.

The staff are helpful and polite. They all have big hearts and care deeply for the animals that are housed here until they find their forever homes. It's very clean, tidy, and I love that they are honest and open about the pets that they receive. Great place to find a furry friend!

I hate to say this as the volunteers (hence 2 stars instead of 1)are wonderful but please DON'T adopt from here. I adopted a gorgeous cat a week ago and he's already been in the 2 hospitals and diagnosed with severe heart disease. 3 vets (including pet cardiologist) have said there is no way his murmur could have been missed. There is no evidence of a wellness check in his paperwork, just that shots had been given. Until they improve their practice, choose somewhere else as my cat has been given 6 months to a year to live 😭

They take volunteers to help. There are always things that need done. They welcome it!

They have had volunteers. But call them to find out now due to covid 19.
I personally don't have that information. You could call Heritage Humane Society. They might be able to tell you.
Hi there! We accept flat sheets and towells, but not fitted sheets or pillows. Thank you so much for asking!
