I wish I could speak better of this office, but my endeavor in getting permits for a simple addition approved has been a complete nightmare. Some of the people I have spoken to in the last several months have been professional and helpful, and some have acted as if I was an imposition when I politely requested help with their unfathomable website. Their emails are of the "do not reply" type, without specific identity of the sender, so any immediate clarifications with regard to their messages can not be asked conveniently. In order to get individual attention, customers need to put a request into MC 311 and then wait up to two days for a response. The inefficiency and general lack of concern for customers has added a considerable cost to my project due to delays and outright errors on their part. Their communication skills are very poor, and their website follows suit. Their website needs to be completely revamped. It is truly miserable.

I chose 1 star only because I am writing this review. DPS Montgomery County are the worst the government and the county are only good for taking everyone's money. They have such a bad customer service they do not care about citizens of this county they do not like to issue any permits and if they do, they ask for so many things that don't even make sense just to get more money. Montgomery County it's the worst.

I expected, from the other reviews, for it to be a pain but the office was very nice and I was in and out with my new operator license in less than an hour.

Terrible turnaround time with permits, apparently it takes 4-6 weeks for any building permit to go through so good luck getting anything done. Absolutely terrible and as a permit service anyone working here should be embarrassed

As far as I know....as long no illegal activity or obstructing any exits or driveways then no
You can park in the building. It is a paid garage. Make sure you park on G1 or G2. G3 is employee only parking. There's a sign separating the two areas.

There are several different zones within Wheaton area. You need to have your exact address in order to determine what your setbacks are. If you Google search MC DPS and go the the About Us page there is a staff directory there. Go to the Zoning Plan Review section and contact any of the Zoning Reviewers and they can help you with this. Another option is to contact MC311 and they will put a request into the Zoning Plan Review Section. Either way works.
I recommend submitting your question to the County's 311 system so you can get a formal answer from the permitting department.
In most cases the zone determines how far a structure has to be from lot lines and not from neighboring houses. The Zoning staff directory is available on the DPS website and you can send an email to a zoning specialist and provide them with your address and they can get back to you with your setbacks.
Montgomery County provides information through their 311 system so that residents can get answers to questions even when we don't always know where to ask them. Not really, depends on where it is. Does it put you or yours at risk?
You need a door to door vendors license. Go to the information counter at DPS and tell them you need a door to door license. They open at 7:30am and close at 4pm. Earlier in the morning is better. Later in the day gets busy. If it's just one license for one person, you can just show up. If you have multiple people in the company that needs the license then set up an appointment. You can contact MC311 and they will have a Permit Technician get back in contact with you. Department of Permitting Services. They have a quick fee schedule on their website. It's under the Zoning Fees.
I believe this is a question for Washington Gas. DPS does not regulate gas, gas meters or gas piping.
You cannot actually see the permit itself but you can look up an address to see what permits are issued.
You can request it online.
You can go on the DPS website home page. I want to- step 1 find and step 2 who my inspector is. Search by application type & number or address. You can see the assigned too for that permit and then under DPS organization there is contact us with the phone list and you can call the inspector. They usually narrow down when they'll be there.
If you get caught you will be required to get a fence permit and you can potentially get fined for install it without a permit.
Once a permit is issued you have one year to the day of issuance. You cannot start construction until the permit has been issued.
