Culpeper is a nightmare. If you can leave Culpeper, get out ASAP! These people get paid to do nothing. 3 people at the window and only 1 or 2 people in waiting area to get help and you'll sit there for an hour waiting. I've seen what looks like majority of the workers in the back of the building taking a smoke break. They lie too. Many times they claim I never returned the paperwork. On more than one occasion, they claimed my son and I didn't live in Culpeper and claimed I called them to say we were moving to North Carolina. Then they said I told them I was leaving my disabled son alone and moving there by myself. They even stopped both my son's and my benefits. I had to contact Social Security, the police and Federal Trade Commission, several politicians, and the person in charge of Social Services for Culpeper. No one was ever held accountable and social services repeatedly canceled our benefits. We need those benefits because we're both disabled and I have a serious autoimmune disease. Social services never told me about Waivers and my son never got help and only got a waiver now that he's 30 years old. No one cares. Now that he finally got a waiver, they say he still can't get help. I feel like we don't get help because we're white and educated and I'm not Hispanic. One social worker actually threatened my son and my son did nothing. The woman threw one of my son's belongings off the table saying it was in her way. This happened in my home when her and a nurse were doing an intake for my son on a waiver application. They denied him waiver and help several times. I filed a complaint with the state against this social workers behavior. I even had witnesses. The state refused to do anything regarding the social worker and the nurse. One person at a politician's office that truly wanted to help, told me that he had attempted getting help from the state level, but that the government officials know about the widespread corruption regarding social services and that the government will do nothing. Talk about a bombshell!!!! I don't want to be sick. I wish I could work and earn money. I wish my son wasn't disabled. I wish he was normal and could work and live on his own. Having Medicaid is like not having insurance at all. Living like this is pure hell. It angers me that people that truly need help don't get help and people that don't speak English, do drugs, sell drugs get lots of help. Angers me when a 50 something or plus guy bragged while at the food pantry that he'd never worked a day in his life and how much food stamps he gets and the nice house and washer/dryer the system gave him. Shaking my damn head over that one. I have social services several times receipts showing my medical expenses. I'm allergic to food and pharmaceuticals. They refused to count those expenses for medical yet the federal government counts special food due to food allergies as a medical expenses as well as supplements. Social Services claims I never gave them receipts, but they said it doesn't matter anyway because they won't count it. When are people going to be held accountable?

Well, I am just starting a journey on behalf of my parents with Culpeper Human Services, however, so far, so excellent! Working from over 2000 miles away, I have started the ball rolling in getting my beloved parents moved from Connecticut to Virginia--with my Dad being moved into rehabilitative care. I called Culpeper Human Services with an inquiry Monday morning and left a voicemail. By Wednesday, I received a call from a Ms. Dotson (sp?). She listened to my questions and let me know that she was actually not the correct person but, that she could get me directly to Ms. Senchem (sp?). I had been concerned that I would be pawned off to voicemail, however, Ms. Senchem got on the phone immediately and helped me! She answered my questions expertly and with patience. She offered me the resources I needed to get the ball rolling for my parent's transition and, assured me that if I needed any assistance, I could call. Now, I've dealt many times with social services and bless the souls of those who are in the field---they are understaffed, underpaid and must deal with human beings in crises...so, understandably, they might fall short in the service department. Not Ms. Dotson and Ms. Senchem! They were angels and I look forward to working with them in the future. So far, and excellent experience!

Every time I deal with this place, I remember why I'd rather resort to everything else than apply for help.
