Good food & great vibe at an unexpected breakfast spot in the heart of the Capital, Raleigh, NC! One of the few spots that serves cornbeef hash! Pancakes are great. I love crispy edges & they do a great job with it but a miss on my last trip, hopefully they'll get it right next time...these pics are from my 1st trip where they got the edges perfect! Customer service is always great! Didn't know this is just one of the many major local restaurants owned by one company, all of Raleigh Times included. Mecca also has outdoor seating!

Rather simple, but wonderfully delicious food, served by genuinely friendly people. I get lunch there every time I'm in the neighborhood.

Not at all like the original owners but very friendly and helpful. There wasn't a long wait but the kitchen was slow in making the food. Food good just not great. It's lost a bit of it's flair but I won't count it out as it's one of the only locations downtown where you can eat reasonably.

Questions & Answers

What's with the early closing times? Most of their business has been in the evening. Do the new owners want it to fail? That's how it looks to me.

They go back and forth regarding evening. It is a big challenge to run a restaurant that serves 3 squares daily. Other than a Waffle Shop or a fast food, few owners even try. BTW, “southern style food” was, when the Mecca grew up, a white euphanism for “soul food.”

The restaurant in not associated with a religion. It happens to be the old restaurant in Raleigh maybe NC that is still open. Lots of old charm and nostalgia - you would enjoy the food and history.
