Everything seemed to be going fine until the end. The nurse Kathleen came in being very loud and almost giddy. She mentioned she didn’t want to drive all the way home in case my dad died she would have to come all the way back if it was before 5. So she comes back close to 5 still being loud and surprised my dad was still alive. She was full of laughter and personal stories. I actually felt uncomfortable and had to step out. My dads last few hours should have been peaceful and quiet. It seemed very chaotic until she left. It was 5 hours later when my father passed away. Me, My sisters and mother were devastated watching my dad struggle to breathe and at the thought of losing the man we loved so much. Her last two visits just did not sit well with me. I understand trying to stay upbeat but all the laughter and jokes were In poor taste at a time when our hearts were breaking. On a better note, they were very generous with morphine and Ativan to keep his suffering to a minimum. So, thank you for that. The social worker after he passed away was so sweet and compassionate. She waited with him until the funeral home arrived.

With pain and symptom management, as well as education and support, hospice care allows patients and families to focus on what is truly important When Life Matters Most. It is a unique health care approach in which the patient and family are the focus, not the disease. Hospice care helps patients and their families make the most of the time that remains. Hospice is a team of specially trained health care professionals caring for the patient and relieving anxiety for the caregiver/family. Our hospice support team helps patients and families with pain and symptom management, social, emotional, and grief issues. Hospice brings comfort and quality to the remaining months, weeks, and days.
Hospice care is for people who have a life-limiting illness with a life expectancy of six months or less, and have chosen to focus on comfort care over treatment. Hospice works with the patient and family to develop a plan of care specific to their disease and individual needs. Eligibility criteria includes frequent hospitalizations, progressive weight loss, deteriorating mental abilities, frequent infections, and/or an overall decline in condition.
