We broke down by Avalon Catalina less than a mile away. I called several times on channel 16 to Seatow with no answer. I finally was directed to channel 11. I was directed if I had a phone with signal to call them. I did and I was told they will dispatch a tow boat. I was told approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes ETA. Captain Anthony would arrived. I got three text messages. One from dispatch if I had any questions and one that said "Sea Tow Captain Anthony A is en-route to your location. ETA: 120 minutes. For updates, call ×××-×××-××××. Please do not reply to this message." and one from Captain Anthony. He asked us for our location and if we had food and water. Also, he suggested to call Avalon harbor patrol and ask if they would tie us up to a mooring or dock. But unfortunately they did not. Upon arriving Captain Anthony texted us and said he was 1.5 nm out. That was good to know, so we could look for him. It took a little longer than expected but it was also not smooth waters. When he arrived he assured us we are safe and to relax. He will take care of everything and asked us where to be towed. I said the loading ramp in Dana point. He estimated about a 4 hour tow or more at approximately 5 to 7 kts. When we reached Dana point inside the marina, he went from a front tow configuration to a side tow configuration. He is excellent. He squeezed our boats in the loading dock with such smoothness and skill and disconnected. He said have a good day and was about to leave. I wanted to give him a tip. So I did. Then, he had backed up already and was about to leave and my beautiful heart daughter who is 8 said, daddy can I give him money. He helped us and I want to give him my money. So I called him back. He look confused to return but was super grateful for the tip. We are super grateful for his service and professionalism as well as a reliable SeaTow company that I feel safe to get us. It was our first time using Seatow and I recommend them! Thank you SeaTow.

YES. This is a BIG misconception out there. Sea Tow is NEVER included with your boat insurance policy. And a Sea Tow membership will ALWAYS be more comprehensive than towing coverage through your insurance carrier. We like to point out... that without a yellow membership card and/or a yellow sticker on your boat... you DO NOT have a Sea Tow membership and therefore do not have priority service and the rest of the privileges that come with membership. If you choose to take a chance and stick with only the coverage provided by your boat insurance policy, you can still call Sea Tow for assistance on the water. As a non-member you will pay for service by the hour. Industry-wide the average cost of on-water assistance is $850 - $1,000 per incident. Also realize that Sea Tow members get priority service, as a non-member you will likely wait for service.
We always encourage boaters to investigate and ask questions to get a full understanding of if there is any coverage with their boat insurance policy before they head out on the water, and if so, what services and dollar amounts are covered. - Who's coming to help you (and when)? - Does your insurance company rely on a third party to provide the towing? - Is there a distance or dollar limit on coverage? - Is there a deductible? - Will you only get service to the nearest safe port instead of where you want to go? - Will claims impact policy premiums? If the answer is yes, to any of these, a Sea Tow membership is a no-brainer for the low cost and high level of coverage.
A membership to Sea Tow is a membership to first-class on-water support (with free towing included) without the hassles or expenses of filing insurance claims or not knowing who exactly is going to come to help you on the water. - Does your insurance company manage towing claims the same as other claims? - Will your towing claim impact future policy premiums? - Will you need to be reimbursed for services performed? - Are all the services you might need covered? - Does your boat insurance company have a dedicated fleet of boats and captains standing by 24/7? A membership to Sea Tow is simple. It's one annual cost ($199/yr for Gold Card, $119/yr for Lake Card) with no claims to file or unexpected out-of-pocket costs. What a towing membership, is above and beyond boat insurance, is very similar to the benefits of having a service like AAA in addition to the roadside assistance coverage through your car insurance. It's premium level support that goes above and beyond what towing coverage under an insurance policy looks like. Sea Tow is Your Road Service at Sea®, with priority service for Sea Tow members.
