UPDATE 2/2022: In-person shopping and classes are happening at Stitch in Time, and all with personal attention to help you navigate the cabinets full of squishy yarn (including Life in the Long Grass, imported from Ireland) or get through a project, from beginners to master-level knitters. Charlene has also upgraded her inventory system so shopping online (for back porch pick-up or shipping) is available. Today I noticed she had some items tucked away that were knit up as shop samples but yarns are discontinued - so you could own something off her needles! Looking at her work confirms her skill and passion. The sign outside still rings true - they are awesome! UPDATE: "Come on in! We're AWESOME!" This was the sign I noticed - much smaller than the sign out front that declares that YARN is sold here, but it's what grabbed my attention and made me smile. The chalkboard by the door made me laugh out loud (do take the time to walk up and read it for yourself). My first experience at Stitch in Time began with these positive postings outside, and I had been hopeful about this local-enough-to-me shop (I live in Brighton) after having learned that it has been in business 27 years and that the owner, Charlene Hatfield, is a certified instructor with the Yarn Council of America. Wow. And wowed I was upon entering. Among the first items I spied were my favorite brands of needles, then some beautiful yarn, and more beautiful yarn. Then Charlene popped around the corner - it was a Wednesday, and she was at the table with those gathered for open knitting each week, available from 10 AM until 6 PM. I was given a verbal guide to the store, invited to open cupboards and doors to look and touch anything, and had some of the specialty yarns highlighted - some from Dublin, Stitch in Time's own line, and others from indie dyers from the US. The armoire stocked with Jamieson's Shetland Spindrift has to be seven feet tall, six feet wide, and stocked with more colors than I have seen anywhere I have looked (as I haven't yet been to Scotland)! I have found *my* LYS here in Michigan! The feeling of warmth and welcome exuded by each person I met, the caliber of Charlene's knitting knowledge and ability to elevate my skills, and the inspiration that adorns the walls, tops of cabinets, and shelves all combine to make *this* the Gold Standard shop in The Mitten! Stitch in Time, you ARE awesome! ORIGINAL: Having lived in the PNW with abundant LYS options, finding a Stitch in Time has been like manna to my soul! Charlene is bright, talented, and has a keen eye for design and selection of stock. She is responsive to customer requests and needs, can help find just what you need in all the wonderful niches and armoires that house her wonderful wares, so it *could* be a quick and efficient shopping trip. But the warmth, comfort, and oodles of sensory fascination [the sights! the smells! the feel!] will certainly make you want to stay. Each visit will bring new finds and discoveries - not just because she is always expanding her stock but because there are so many beautiful objects to see and touch!

I was in town for my brothers wedding. Decided to pop in to this shop to check it out and buy some yarn for an upcoming KAL. OMgosh!!! This place is so adorable! So many selections!! So much to look at! I was in a bit of a time crunch so I asked for help finding what I needed and was greeted so pleasantly and helped so wonderfully! I’ll definitely will be back to take a closer look and pet the yarn 😉! If you’re in the area (if not just go to the area any way) and shop here. You will not be disappointed!!!

Just an AMAZING yarn store! We made a pitstop here on the way back home from vacation from Saginaw to Cincy Ohio and just WOW! The selection is top notch! Not only does the owner have "commercial" dyed yarns -nothing wrong with those, though 😋- but she got the best selection of indie dyers I have ever seen that no one else carries in person! Also the Dream in Color selection is a dream-pun intended! Just a must stop for knitters and crocheters alike! Definitely road trip worthy!

Nice selection. Parking is not so great.

Hello! Hand sanitizer as soon as you walk in the door, asking people not to touch unless they are pretty confident they will buy....wearing masks, keeping a safe distance and cleaning often. Thank you
No, I’m sorry, I do not. Check with Stitches n Things in Fenton.
