Adoption requirements include basic vaccinations that pets are recommended by veterinarians to receive yearly, as well as monthly heartworm prevention for dogs (again, highly recommended by veterinarians). Most shelters around the US require these things - vaccinations for your pets being a minimum. If you are looking at reviews to determine where to adopt from, don't. Anyone who is angry that they were not eligible to adopt, and petty enough will take to the internet to bash. Go and see for yourself what the organization is about. They are a small, passionate group of individuals who work hard for the animals. Animals don't get adopted first-come-first-serve. It's all about the best fit for each animal so that they do not end up back in a shelter again.

Their processes for adoptions and their decision criteria is opaque. The runs are full of rough rocks with aging feces. Their listing, in our experience, was bait and switch. The dog was clearly not a mix of the breeds advertised. Forcing the whole family to meet the pet before their deciding who to give it to is a flawed approach that seeds disappointment and resentment.

Please read. Terrible service. If you attempt to adopt an animal here, you will wait. And wait. And continue waiting while you recieve the run around. You can call. But you will only recieve an answering machine. If you do speak to someone, they will be of no help and continue telling you "Dont worry, well call you." They wont. Even after all the waiting and the patiently call to check on your application. You will still be denied for some arbitrary reason. The worst part about my experience, is, it's the animal that ends up suffering. Rather than be adopted out to a large three story home with a 2 acre yard, the animal is forced to remain in a small kennel because the staff deemed it so. I absolutely will discourage anyone from doing business with this establishment. I will shout it from the rooftops if need be. The staff and the business model needs to change. There is nothing great about this place. If you plan on adopting be prepared to wait at MINIMUM of 1 WEEK! Before getting denied. Please, go to the other nearby facilities. I love animals. Dogs especially, but some people and their power trips, are too much.

While the Humane Society does not help with neutering to my knowledge, Dr. Sprague, the vet at All Pets Animal Hospital on McCord street works with the state programs to do low cost spay and neuter for the community. The funding has been low so the program doesn't run year round, but even without the state program, Doc Sprague is very reasonably priced compared to other vets in the area, and is willing to work with folks. Best of luck, thank you for doing the responsible thing for those boys!
Do not look at dogs here they will never call you back once you put in an application.
Yes
There isn't really an average. It depends on how busy the shelter gets and how long it takes to get ahold of the vet's offices because they're always busy. Our application says to give us 5-7 days but usually it is shorter than that
I think so call and ask
