I loved the staff I had for my palliative care needs. The only downside was that in a years time, a doctor quit so I had to go over everything again. The first nurse I had was fabulous but was promoted so I had a new nurse. COVID-19 hit and my second nurse quit. After that I had 2 different nurses and neither truly impressed me. I had a fantastic social worker, she found a better job. COVID-19 really messed up everything. But, in the meantime my medical team became Palliative Care providers and I quit using San Joaquin PC and now my doctor left for a better job. My NP is leaving at the end of July. Finding knowledgeable medical professionals is difficult because my medical issues are rare and have no cure. It's a mess and I may return to San Joaquin PC because they at least have knowledge in pain management and each staff member was definitely caring and compassionate.

I couldn’t be more disappointed with the experience my family had recently with the Hospice of San Joaquin. I was told that hospice is a service that helps support the grieving family and will guide them through this difficult time. Nothing could have been further from the truth. Our mom was in hospice for 2 weeks and the few phone calls we received during that time were curt, blunt and anything but compassionate. This is especially true of Josie and Elizabeth. They are fond of the phrase “actively dying” and would use this phrase often in describing my mom’s condition even when it was clear this was disturbing to the family. As if we didn’t know that. They were no help when pressured to choose a mortuary even when I explained to them, in the midst of my grief, that I had no experience with making funeral arrangements. I was callously told to refer to “page 31 in the manual.” The last act of indifference was to call with their “condolences” more than 2 days after our mom passed away. There has been no other contact since. Where is this “support” that they claim to provide the families? I mistakenly believed HSJ would be a source of support during this agonizing time. I couldn’t have been more incorrect. I would never recommend Hospice of SanJoaquin. Choosing them was the biggest regret I have during the last weeks of our mom’s life.
