This “lab” is atrocious. There is a large waiting area with no check-in; no desk, no window, no glass door. The staff can’t see when patients arrive. They randomly open the door and look around. You wouldn’t know it was the lab if not for the poorly-placed handwritten signs. New hires are sent up there for bloodwork, for which there actually is a sign-in sheet - a barely legible sign-in sheet with sloppy scribbles around it…Taped to the wall… Across the room from the entrance so the staff couldn’t see a new name even if they wanted. Confuses new hires and the general public alike. During my hour+ wait, when any of the staff felt like strolling out at a very leisurely pace, not one of them walked over to check the new hire list. Finally someone dragged herself across the lobby to view the list, took our paperwork, made us wait another 30 minutes and then in front of me took someone who’d signed in a half hour after I arrived. To make the experience more unpleasant they drew another patient in the same tiny room as me, at the same time (kinda seems like a CDC, HIPAA and even OSHA issue.) Usually, employee health departments just draw what they need themselves, especially since they’re staffed by RNs who can perform phlebotomy. Ochsner should seriously rethink this system; it’s inconsiderate and a bad first impression. there is absolutely no reason for this level of unprofessionalism. Ochsner should consider hiring a phlebotomist exclusively for EHS. It would make the process a lot more convenient for the new hardworking members of their team.
