We were excited to try the Ivy restaurant in downtown Wheaton last night. The beauty of the old church-turned-eatery is almost breathtaking with stunning architectural detail. We sat down and immediately enjoyed menus that light up from behind the page! Our meal started out really well with a Solemn Oath craft beer and a Sonoma cab, hot French bread right out of the oven served with honey infused butter. It was very delicious. Then a wedge salad and a bowl of homemade chicken noodle soup. Both were very impressive. My wife ordered the Cajun Chicken Penne pasta entree and I tried the Truffle Burger. The pasta was almost too hot to eat with way too much cayenne pepper. This is a big mistake with inexperienced chefs. I ordered my burger medium rare, which means bloody. It arrived “medium” (see pictures), which was disappointing. The burger was also dwarfed by the large bun, which was flavorful but too much bread for the small size of the burger. Over cooking meat is also a sign of an inexperienced chef. We rarely send food back and we enjoyed our meal and conversation without sending anything back. We even split the flourless chocolate cake, which was sublime. Our server Katrina was thoughtful and friendly and it’s never the server’s fault when the chef makes mistakes, so we tipped generously and left. The vibe at the Ivy is well worth trying and you may get a better chef than we had. We’ll probably try it again someday but not before trying other eateries first.

We have been patrons of Ivy for a while, a few times dining in and mostly take out. It had always been great. We even had Ivy for a New Year’s dinner during the pandemic and it was great. We dined in today and it was a total disappointment. First the appetizers, we got the crab cakes and calamari. The crab cakes had a strong “fridge flavor”, not fresh at all. The calamari was SUPER rubbery. For the main entrees, the rib eye steak wasn’t cooked to the temperature we requested but that’s ok, we’re fine with something being slightly over cooked, that didn’t bother us as much as the fact that some portions of the rib eye steak tasted just bad, like rotten meat, it left a very undesirable after taste. We also ordered the duck, same thing, some of it was good but some of it tasted like the duck meat was going bad. Like I said, we have been patrons of this restaurant for a while, and I think we’d give them another chance at some point, but tonight was a huge disappointment

We had a small luncheon to celebrate our wedding. The first floor room was cozy and cute! The staff was so accommodating to our needs and very friendly. The food was excellent.

The food was delicious!! The space has some history which is fun but overall not our favorite atmosphere. Lighting was dim and space was a little cold. It was an older crowd. This is the most people that we have seen not wearing masks - January 2022

They serve pork, so I doubt they're a kosher kitchen. They might buy halal beef and chicken though.
Yes they are. source: Yelp
