First day bringing my Harley girl in, I felt very welcome and the staff were very knowledgeable and very friendly yet professional. Great team work as I'm sure it stays busy. I work in a similar field and it takes a lot of work and effort to make it run smoothly especially when it gets really busy. Glad to be able to have my pet taken care of by people who truly care for your fur babies as they would their own!

This specific Banfield is a wonderful place to bring your pets. While most Banfield Pet Hospitals can be found in a PetSmart, and therefore be a bit catered to the store itself, this hospital is standalone. Currently there is a scary respiratory illness going around, and my two dogs were badly ill. With current labor shortages, not one of the other veterinary clinics in the area could schedule an appointment for me. Banfield not only scheduled this appointment for me, but they got me in quickly, accommodated our circumstances, and all staff were very competent. The cost can be high without an annual account, so I’d recommend being strategic in choosing a plan. But I’m very grateful to this hospital for offering care at a time when I needed it most!

My cat was going to this place for 12+ years in the North Durham area, which has been relatively fine for check ups and getting his nails done. However, recently, he had respiratory issues-- wouldn't go up the stairs like usual, was having a hard time breathing, and every time we picked him up he would wheeze or gag a little. They brushed it off as cat asthma. In the following days, it'd gotten worse, where I could tell my cat was focused on choosing between laying down, sitting up, and his mouth occasionally parting for more air. They couldn't find a problem. We couldn't get him seen from the same Banfield during the next day, so we decided to go to the one at SouthPoint Crossing. We took him to the vet that morning, and they couldn't find the issue, quote on quote. They said his heart was fine, did NOT do any kind of internal checks such as xrays or an ultrasound, and simply gave him two shots to deal with a very vague issue. They did not check him more thoroughly because he was too squirmy, but I figure vets should have extra tools and medicine that are suppose to help with more uppity pets. Within the same day, at night, his breathing got worse to the point that he was choking, and we rushed to a different vet that was open 24 hours. Within 20 minutes, they were able to get him on oxygen, and were able to ultrasound him to find the problem; he had a build up of fluid in his chest, either from heart failure or something even worse. He specifically had Pleural Effusion. After discussing our options, we decided it was best to put him to sleep so he wouldn't have to suffer. As much as I don't want to point any fingers as to what caused him to leave us so soon, giving a sick pet two doses of medicine while not doing any internal checks seems severely irresponsible to me. The fact that another establishment was able to get us an answer in moments instead of just poking him with needles to fix a guesstimated problem is telling. Had this been handled more professionally, even if our cat had to go soon, we would've been more emotionally prepared had we known earlier. Perhaps the problem that caused him distress wouldn't have been sped up, if my predictions for why my cat died the same day he was already seen by doctors who blindly gave him medicine holds any potential answer.

What is an Optimum Wellness Plan?

Banfield Pet Hospital | Sep 30, 2020

Optimum Wellness Plans are designed to provide annual preventive care. They include head-to-tail exams, vaccines, early screening diagnostics, consultations for proper nutrition, dental care and more! Since wellness plans are not insurance, they do not include treatment for unpredictable or abnormal conditions, however discounts would apply. Because pets need ongoing preventive care, wellness plans automatically renew at the end of each twelve month period (unless paid in full at enrollment).
