Took amazing care of my cat.

We started taking our cat here for general care and nail trims. The first time we took her, we were hoping to get our cat a full exam and a nail trim. We were told it was unsuccessful due to her being highly anxious and aggressive. We were told Gabapentin would be an option for future visits and if that didn’t work, anesthesia would be the next step. They discussed wellness plans, stating the Gabapentin would be covered but anesthesia wouldn’t be, if needed. We signed up for the advanced wellness plan. I went back a couple of weeks later to pick up her heart worm meds and rescheduled the exam. I asked for the Gabapentin and was told the doctor wasn’t in but would call me. A week went by, no call. I called back and it seemed no one put a note in regarding the medication request. I was told “the issue was solved” and I picked it up that day. I was charged (even though I was told the opposite at the previous visit). The only explanation was “no, it is a charge but you discount”. Okay. Moving on. A few days before the exam, I got a call, asking if I wanted to go ahead and get our cat a dental cleaning which would include anesthesia. I asked about the price, given the different information I had been told previously. I was told the anesthesia was covered and to save the Gabapentin for when we had to bring her back for the vaccine booster. The day of, we dropped her off at 7:30am. She hadn’t eaten since I was told she couldn’t eat after midnight. We didn’t give her Gabapentin since we were told to save it and didn’t know if it was safe. Our cat is highly anxious, which they SHOULD know, considering we were unsuccessful the first time around. I received a call around 11:00, stating they weren’t able to do anything for our cat. She was highly aggressive and it “wouldn’t be safe to give her more anesthesia “ and she was still very “amped up”. They asked if she had been given Gabapentin and I explained why she hasn’t been given any. I explained my concerns with the lack of communication and was told she was ready to get picked up. Of course, when we got there, she wasn’t ready. When we got home, SHE WAS FINE. She clearly wasn’t given ANY anesthesia (had energy, eating, not drowsy or nauseous, etc). The communication is non existent and more often then not, false information. Our cat clearly had no notes regarding her anxious/aggressive behaviors. No one communicated the Gabapentin would be helpful for her. We were told she was given anesthesia when she wasn’t. When we picked her up, we had to wait and then they brought our very anxious cat into their very chaotic waiting room with 3-4 other dogs. They weren’t even holding her bag in a stable position, dropped her at my get, and walked away. The staff were typically very friendly; however, it appeared that our cat was seen as “just another animal”. There seemed to be very little compassion. We regret getting the wellness plan (which you can’t cancel in office and have to call). I would encourage to look elsewhere for your pets needs. I do not trust them with our Cat.

I had a drop off appointment scheduled for my dog today. When I arrived they offered to do an in room visit so I wouldn’t have to make a trip back to pick her up. I asked how long the wait would be and was told 30 minutes. After waiting almost an hour in the room with my dog, no one ever came in to see us. No communication at that location.

Your monthly payments can be automatically withdrawn from a checking or savings account or charged to a credit card so that you don’t have to worry about them once you enroll. We also offer the option of paying in full if you prefer.

What is an Optimum Wellness Plan?

Banfield Pet Hospital | Sep 29, 2020

Optimum Wellness Plans are designed to provide annual preventive care. They include head-to-tail exams, vaccines, early screening diagnostics, consultations for proper nutrition, dental care and more! Since wellness plans are not insurance, they do not include treatment for unpredictable or abnormal conditions, however discounts would apply. Because pets need ongoing preventive care, wellness plans automatically renew at the end of each twelve month period (unless paid in full at enrollment).
