Neat place to see if you love history but be advised that it's behind the SCDNR gates. You'll have to your vehicle at the park up the rode and walk (or bike) the rest of the way to the point.

There is gate at end of fort Johnson which is open to the public 9 to 5 week days. The gate was broken last week. So you might be able to get in after hours. You can se ft sumter
TBH it's not particularly close to anything. It's kind of out of the way. But any hotel in South Charleston would not be too far.
