This park is spacious and there's lots to do - walk, sprint or run. Its family and pet friendly. One can stop at the center and inquire about current activities available inside.

Right place for friends, family, kids for an active day, simple slow casual outing just to walk, walk-talk, pick a tree and make your picnic. Place has something for all ages.

It is a great place to walk. Only managed around three times today

It is a small park but really a nice place for the kids, they have few swings and slides and more in the playground. Plus the grill and seating benches were nice.

Yes they were open last Saturday when I was there. They just want you to limit the amount of people inside at one time, and of course wear a mask.
There are 2 type of picnic areas: 1) Reservation only groves and 2) Open groves. For Open groves you don't need any permit (alcohol too is prohibited in Open groves). You just need to occupy the tables (as many as you want) as early as possible. For Reservation groves, you can contact the Parks and Recreation office and reserve your spot. You can also apply for beer permit. Important Tip: If a reservation grove is not reserved on a particular day, it is considered open to all. You can inquire with park rangers in the morning and they will tell you which of the reservation groves have no reservation for that day. You can then use those groves as Open groves.
Yup, have seen plenty of people do that.
I am not aware of any bus service to Roosevelt park directly. You can take the train from Penn station to Metropark and then there is a bus which will drop you 5 min away from Roosevelt park
Unfortunately No.
Park has many grills. No permits needed. Just keep clean.
There are few trails in the park so your distance will depend upon the trail you take. A lap around the lake will be around 0.6 miles.
As long as the grove isnt rented out.. Our family is having a reunion there and we paid 50$ for abspecific covered grove
No fees. But if you want to do ny picnic, or use the grill then only you need to take permission. Its very good place . But we had bad time searching for parking. Better you park near Ice skating area. 😀. Happy journey.
No they closed it many years ago not sure why.
Yea, you need permit but there are few open pits as well.
I dont know of a butterfly garden at Roosevelt park, i know tgeres one in avenel off if rahway avenue
There isn't that I know of, but if you go to Walmart sporting goods section, you can get a fishing license, if you have your veterans card you get a discount. And they stock that lake with fish. Good experience for a fishing trip.
Yes they do have barbecue space in various locations in the park. If you are having a large gathering you need to reserve a space, if alcoholic beverages permits are required. Contact the parks and recreation department in Edison to get further information.
